Mayweather/Mosley discussion **SPOILERS**
Maybe the thread title is a little redundant (there's currently only 4 people viewing the whole Boxing forum but I don't want to spoil the result for anybody).
Missed the undercard but caught the main event. Really wanted to see if Mosley could catch Mayweather with a power shot and what would happen if he did. Now I know.
Round one - Coinflip as both fighters spent the round clinching a lot and throwing range-finding shots. I gave the edge to Mosley because I'm not a Mayweather fan.
Round two - Mosley cracked Mayweather with two beautiful right hands and had Mayweather hurt and in big trouble. First time I've personally seen Mayweather take a couple of flush bombs like that. However, 'Money' did a good job in avoiding any more significant damage by effectively trapping Mosley's arm after the first cross landed and clinching well after the second. Mayweather survived the round with Mosley chasing him.
Round three - Mayweather went up a gear while Mosley seemed a bit winded. Mayweather surged foward but his punches weren't doing a lot of damage. Mosley seemed content to try and slip punches while loading up his right. Mayweather took his corner's advice and started to 'box that motherfucker'.
Round four - Mayweather clearly the aggressor but you got the feeling he hadn't quite figured out the timing. He landed a good counter right and another right to take the round.
Round five - Mayweather clearly in control. Landed a couple of good shots and made Mosley miss at will. Mosley was clearly flagging and, his head and body movement was a lot slower.
Round six - Mosley started the round well and was more active, but halfway through Mayweather timed him with another counter right. More hard, short right hands and a good left hook from Mayweather and Mosley's face was puffing up.
Round seven - Mayweather stared to beat Mosley up. He's slipped Mosley's sporadic return fire and clipped him with hard counters when Mosley charged and stiff lead punches when he backpedaled. Good one-two in there as well. Easy round for Mayweather.
Round eight - Mosley got a little desperate and tried some rough stuff against the ropes and got warned. Mosely said something to Mayweather and Mayweather caught him with a laser-like right in response. Dumb from Mosley. Mayweather backed up but kept slipping and landing stinging jabs.
Round nine - Mosley kept coming foward but Mayweather just so elusive and his handspeed made Mosley look pedestrian. Mayweather happy to backpedal, counter, and attack. Landed more jabs and right hands. Mosley looked exhausted, with hardly any head or body movement and was essentially getting picked apart. Mayweather just too good.
Round ten - Mayweather putting on a masterclass. Mosley stuffed and that's making the class gap even more apparent. Mayweather landed a sick body shot that pretty much took the stuffing out of Mosley. Even when he landed there was nothing behind his shots and Mayweather just shrugged them off.
Round eleven - Mayweather looked like he could go another 12 rounds while Mosley's corner were probably considering the towell. Mosley's trainer told him to stop looking for the perfect shot - "It's not there!" and start throwing punches. Good advice. Mosley was physically unable to implement it though, and Mayweather cracked him with right hands through the round while Mosley missed with pretty much everything.
Round twelve - A lot of heart from Mosley as he was obviously spent but he came out for the last round anyway. Mayweather just cruised to the win by calmly dodging Mosely's wild punches and tagging him with counter rights when he felt like it. Scorecards 119-109 Mayweather
119-109 Mayweather
118-110 Mayweather
Done and dusted. Really thought Mosley had him in the second but Mayweather's conditionig kept him standing when a lot of other fighters would have dropped. Mayweather just picked Mosley apart for the rest of the fight and was a lot more aggressive than he has been previously. I feel bad for Mosley -a future hall of famer in his own right - because Mayweather just looked on another level for 10 rounds of that fight.
After the fight Money was actually pretty respectful about Mosley and didn't trash talk him or anything. He reiterated that Manny Pacquio knows where to find him, but also that the drug testing he demanded last time was a non-negotiable.
