WBA super welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KOs) is scheduled to return to the ring March 12 against Ricardo Mayorga (29-7, 23 KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
At least the press conferences least will be entertaining.
If Cotto is successful (which he likely will be) then he could set up a potential rematch with Antonio Margarito. Margarito hasn't fought since he was viciously beaten by Manny Pacquiao in November. In that fight, Margarito suffered a fractured right orbital bone that required surgery. Margarito defeated Cotto by 11th round TKO back in 2008.
Cotto is coming off of a nine round TKO victory over Yuri Foreman in June 2010. When the fight was stopped, Cotto was ahead on all three scorecards.
Mayorga actually won his last fight, also by ninth-round TKO of Michael Walker in December. Before that, Shane Mosley knocked Mayorga out in the 12th round of their September 2008 fight.
Cotto-Mayorga will be available on Pay-Per View.
Foreman will also be on the card, taking on Pawel Wolak and WBC female super welterweight champion Christy Martin.
