Why true MMA fans still love boxing

Erik Morales vs Marcos Maidana

Straight out of a movie. As much as I have strayed from boxing in favor of MMA, this sport is like an ex-girlfriend who can still get you hot and bothered from time to time. I know this will probably get moved to the boxing forums. But dammit, these Tap Out kids need to watch this fight and see what MMA as a sport should aspire to one day. Heart, skill, strategy, and pure balls. No safe fighting, no point riding, no "grinding out" a win. This was high danger, high intensity, and high drama from the opening bell to the end. Forget the Alphabet Titles, politics, and bullshit. When a fight like this happens, none of that seems to matter. This goes right up there with Gotti/Ward 1 and Hagler/Hearns. Fight of the Year in Boxing, and maybe a candidate for decade......

I am still a die hard boxing fan and will be so until my last day on earth. Love the sport. This was a great fight Morales turned back the clock during this fight.

The exact for me as well.....wrestling is and will always be a huge part of my life....the #1 reason why I transitioned into being an MMA fan.

Not a "fan" of boxing, but yeah, that Morales fight is epic....

Man, Jens Pulver might have seen this fight and decides to call out Eddie Alverez....God I'm hoping he didn't see this fight.....

Boxing bores me for some reason. I will do it in person, but I hate watching boxing. Just my personal opinion.

huge boxing fan, it isnt was it used to be. but still some very good fights. the klitschko brothers are good and exciting but are there really any good fights to be made with them? if they were in a different era there would be some good fights for them. Dont want to see an old james toney, hopkings, or rjj boxing anymore.. huge fan of them but there are complete shells of their former self. Of course we have 2 all time greats fighting now in manny and floyd but that fight has been talked about for years, hopefully floyd will finally agree to fight him. Train boxing for 4+ hours a day but dont even have the desire to even try to go pro. mma is where its at nowadays.

So, one fight draws attention, so what? For the most part boxing is about point fighting, and the amount of finishes hale in comparison to MMA. I think MMA fighters have alot more skill and athletic talent then boxers, you arent hearing about ex-NFL players going into boxing, their all transitioning to MMA. MMA also gives football and wrestlers something to do after college if they dont/cant go pro or to the olympics.
