As much as I liked Chavez, Taylor deserved to get the nod in that fight. He won just about every round except the last 2 or 3, even though he got smashed in those rounds. 2 seconds left in the fight, Steele should have known better. Now, if it was 5-10 seconds, than I say it's a good stoppage. It's just a good thing there weren't anymore 15 round fights, otherwise, Taylor might've gotten killed.

It really is close though, the referee was doing his job, no doubt. Either way, it's one of the best fights of the last 20-30 years, as well as one of the most controversial. I'm glad Chavez got the W, but in the back of my mind, a little voice with a Philly accent is telling me that 2 seconds was all it would have taken for Taylor to have gotten the biggest win of his career.

with all that talent Meldrick had, that win probably woulda catapulted him far

i still hate richard steele with passion because of that. WHo knows what would happend after that fight, but meldrick deserved that moment. Its such a shame to see what has happened to him since.

I saw the fight when it happend. It was a bad decision but Taylor would have deteriorated after that fight anyway. He just suffered the same fate as RJJ.
