The real fight of the year may still be to come later on this year. The Hatton/Castillo fight should be great, that's coming up on June 20. Then there's the rematch with Marquez and Vasquez, hopefully that can go longer.
Marquez the elder is set for another fight in September, probably a rematch with Barrera, and then there's Pacquiao's fight in October against presumably either Edwin Valero or Humberto Soto. Either of those two matchups have FOTY potential.

That's what I've heard from some of the little links from maxboxing.com . If he fights Valero, it'll most likely be in Macau, as its a huge fight in Asia, and asides from that, Valero's not licensed to fight anywhere in the U.S. And Valero's talked shit about Manny too, called him "another cab driver" or something like that. If Pacquiao/Valero happens, I like Manny by TKO in the 10th. He's too fast, too skilled, and too tough for Valero, who nearly went life and death with Vicente Mosquera when her first won the title.

Plus, I forgot to add, a fight with Marquez after he beats Valero gets bigger and more money gets involved, as it becomes a title unification bout. Pacquiao's potential WBA title against Marquez' WBC title.
In the meantime, since Joan Guzman is gonna stay at 130 (his fight with Katsidis at 135 is shot), Golden Boy can try and get him to unify his WBO title with whoever is holding the IBF title. Right now, that is Mzonke Fana, who was last widely seen getting knocked the fuck out by Barrera in '05 in 2 rounds. If I was GBP, I'd set up an HBO card featuring Guzman and someone like Rocky Juarez, in seperate bouts. Have Guzman defend his title, and have Juarez challenge Fana for his title, setting up a title unifier.
If its Guzman/Juarez, I'd probably like Guzman, he's too fast and skilled for the plodding, but powerful, Juarez. The newly crowned IBF/WBO champion can then be set up for whoever is the WBA/WBC champion.
However, they could also try to set up Marquez with Guzman to unify the WBC and WBO titles on HBO, and Pacquiao, after he wins the WBA title, can unify with whoever is the IBF champion. Maybe Bob Arum has Humberto Soto go after the IBF strap. If Marquez beats Guzman, the we'd have a huge megafight to become the undisputed champion at 130 between Pacquiao and Marquez on PPV. If those kinds of stakes with that kind of money is on the table, I think it overrides any sort of animosity Top Rank and Golden Boy may have for one another and bring them together to do business.

For Manny right now, the fight i'd like to see him take (besides the Marquez rematch) is Joan Guzman. Valero to me right now is all hype. Has he fought ANYBODY that's noteworthy? At least Guzman has shown he can take power shots when he fought a very very good fight against Jorge Barrios. A fight with Humberto Soto would be good too. The man i'd like to really see Manny fight (though i don't think it will happen) is Joel Casamayor...if Casamayor can get back down to 130.

Well, since this was originally a thread about the Pavlik/Miranda brawl, I just read in Rafael's Notebook on espn.com that Bob Arum and Lou DiBela are close to signing off on a Taylor/Pavlik title bout come late September, on regular HBO. If this happens, Taylor gets some of his respect back from me, and deserves some props for taking on the dangerous Pavlik. Still, I hold to what I said before, Pavlik wins this fight by late knockout, at this point, I think Pavlik is simply the hungrier, stronger fighter.
I agree with klev, I also think that a fight with Guzman is probably a lot more difficult for Pacquiao than a fight with Valero. Guzman is definitely skilled and unlike anyone else at 130, he probably comes closest to matching Pacquiao's speed, if he doesn't already match it out right. He also showed me he has heart, I saw him keep fighting on against Juaregui last year with a broken hand. So basically, Pacquiao/Guzman comes down to Pacquiao's speed and power against Guzman's speed and skill....should be a good fight, it'll probably come down to who's more aggressive and willing to take chances to win, which has pretty much been Pacquiao's MO.
I just don't see Valero standing much of a chance against any of the other elite at 130. Pacquiao destroys him, too much speed, the power is relatively even (Valero probably punches a bit harder), and Pacquiao looks to have the better chin. Plus, for once Pacquiao would be the more skilled boxer in the ring. Marquez, Barrera, and Guzman would thoroughly outbox Valero, and Soto looks to be tougher and rougher and hungrier.
