Kicks to the Head

I never seen this anywhere but I got a question to ask everyone....all those Pride lovers and dont get me wrong I love Pride too always say that Pride is more skilled than UFC and they have better fighters.... well I think that the reason Pride fighters seem better is because you can KICK THE GUY IN THE HEAD when he is down which most times directly leads to the end of the fight...i dont think any skill what so ever is invloved with kicking a guy in the head but you need skill to hit a guy with an elbow while he has you in guard position.... I had to ask this because you always have people say that a fighters loss doesn't count cause he got cut by an elbow...well a win is a win and I would rather win by cutting someone with an elbow then kicking him in the face when he is down.... anybody else have any feedback I would like to hear.

IT DEPENDS ON THE WHIEGHT CLASS YOU LOOK AT... HW IN PRIDE IS WAY DEEPER THAN UFC BUT THE WW DIV. IN UFC IS WAY MORE STACKED.... BUT I THINK SOON ENOUGH WE WILL HAVE ALOT OF PRIDE FIGHTERS FIGHTING IN THE US OR THE OTHER WAY AROUND AND THERE WILL BE NO EXCUSSES THEN....

Idiotic rule. The amount of damage the can be done to another fighter when he's done with that type of blow is sicking. I've been taking karate for 21 yrs and that type of blow is only used to take out an ARMED attacker. And i was taught the samething in the Marines. You can freakin kill someone

Kicking someone while they're down is fine if you ask me. It's mixed-martial arts but it's as close to a real fight as possible. Headbutts, I was glad when they took those away because it doesn't take much skill if you're a wrestler to take someone down, let them trap your arms and you can still just slam your head on top of theirs. It takes skill to kick someone in the head on the ground because, well, you have to get them there first. Secondly if it's ok to kick them in the head standing up, I don't see the difference if they're on the ground. You put that person there, or they ended up there because they made a mistake. Either way, it's a strike and you're out to try and finish the fight at all times so if you got a guy grounded in front of you, punt his head into the fourth row and go home a richer man.

soccer kicks to the head are ridiculous. sure they're entertaining but the bottom line is they are dangerous. also, they are way more dangerous on the ground than standing up because 1) when a guy is standing he's more alert and 2) there's a lot more force behind a ground kick than a standing high kick. i think they should get rid of elbows on the ground too though, not because they're dangerous, because i don't think they're that dangerous, but because the cuts they make end fights on stupid technicalities. just ask fedor

I think soccer kicks ok, but stomps are pretty dangerous (nowhere for the head to go, so imagine one of those landing on your teeth). Come to think about it, a school friend of mine died from a head stomp.

git.

i like the kicks to the head i mean its dangerous yes but hell so is the whole getting in the cage or ring and fighting aspect of it they know that there is danger involved when you step foot in there so you have ot be ready to take it plus have you ever kicked someone in the head when they are on the ground its a great feeling i think i did it about a month ago in a bar fight and it was great plus it teaches drunk sob's to not start fights hahaha

Why does it matter if youre a wrestler or not... the headbutt was a great thing.... i mean Skill or no skill the bottom line is to hurt and attack ur opponent before they attack you.... thats the bottom line.... as far as skill what SKILL is there to fighting besides survival of the fittest.... thats what determines the true winner...

Matt Boone 07-20-2006 04:40 PM

I agree on the head stomp issue. With soccer kicks I was pretty much trying to make the point that if a fighter is downed you either forced him there or he made a mistake and wound up there. If you have no problems with punching or elbowing a downed fighter, then there shouldn't be much with kicking either.

LOL, welcome to MMA. What skill is there to fighting? Nah. I'm not gonna bother with this one.
