Press Release

STATEMENT FROM JEREMY LAPPEN, CEO OF THE WORLD FIGHTING ALLIANCE ON KIMO LEOPOLDO’S POSITIVE TEST
FOR A BANNED SUBSTANCE

Statement from Jeremy Lappen, CEO of the World Fighting Alliance

“The California Athletic Commission has informed the World Fighting Alliance that Kimo Leopoldo has tested positive for a banned substance and therefore is not eligible for his July 22 bout with Bas Rutten at the Forum in Los Angeles.

The WFA is a fighter-first organization, so Kimo’s disqualification is a disappointment for our entire family of fighters. But the positive test is a reminder that the WFA and Mixed Martial Arts is a professional sport, governed by the same rules as other major sports leagues.

This situation, while disappointing, validates the steps we are taking as an organization and a sport to ensure the integrity of competition. We are currently working to secure another qualified opponent for Bas so he can make his historic return to competitive Mixed Martial Arts on Saturday night. An announcement on the bout will be forthcoming.”

For more information on the WFA and “WFA: King of the Streets,” July 22nd at the Forum in Los Angeles, visit www.wfa.tv.

Should that really be a surprise? Kimo juiced up, that is why he was fighting in japan where they don't test. I hope they get someone else in there for Bas. He deserves a quality opponent and we deserve to see his return. I would prefer for it to not be Wes sims Bas will destroy him.

Yeah but other than Wes Sims, what "name" Heavyweight fighter would take a fight with Bas Rutten on a single days' notice? Not many. At least it's still Bas versus someone we know, as opposed to Bas returning to fight some complete nobody we've never even heard of after waiting 7 years to see him return to MMA.

No surprise with kimo situation.... but wes sims will still be a good competitor....it will be interesting but i think bas will submit him pretty quickly.
the Rickson fight was never going to take place unfortuneatly.. bas called him out and rickson said yeah but only on my terms... his terms never eventuated.....

I'm not too disappointed. I'm just glad to see Bas back fighting. I think Bas vs Sims could be an exciting fight. Most likely a short one though.

Now that Sims is out though, alot of peeps on Sherdog are saying Kevin Randleman will be the replacement.
But that sounds far-fetched 2 me.

Kimo is a scumbag. You put all of this time into the promotion, know you'll be tested and what??? How frigin moronic are you? I hope they ban him from competition in the US. He's a fish anyway. A guy who looks the part but can't step up.

tapper 07-21-2006 05:41 AM

that is perfect
