Oh I wanted to add how much I really enjoyed the first UFC events formats. For their time they seemed brutal especially when someone had a huge weight advantage and or a fighter that had fought a couple times already that day had to fight someone who had not.
It was grueling , but also made me want to watch the next Event that much more becuase there was just nothing at the time anything close to being similiar to it that was on t.v.
So now it seems that most of the events have fallen into a stagnant format where there are 3 rounds and a judging panel. It can be argued that they created the current format for matches and current weight divisions for a more balanced and fair situation for the participating fighters.
With the emergence of a new MMA fighters League (World Fighting Alliance)
It would be interesting if one of the Event Holders tried messing around with the format a bit. Maybe a MMA Tough man competition PPV event
Or old school anyone from the audience want to take a shot at me Come and hop in the ring sorta thing. If there is any organization that could spark a new way of thinking that would be competitive as well as entertaining to Fans who have grown tired of boring lackluster fights I would guess it would be UFC but I think They are too afraid of changing it up a bit becuase one of their biggest crowd drawing atheletes could get his ass handed to him by a Nobody Discredit their organization as a whole and upset their cash flow.
Gracie was a nobody his style was unorthadoxed as heck and it was the first time we as viewers new to the sport had seen anything the likes of him and with the format he had to climb up through it was just fascinating to witness and the sport has yet to capture anything close to that excitement in a long long time.
I think the discussion for changing the formats for Mixed Martial Arts should be viewed with an open mind much like learning a new technique. You'll never learn anything new if you dont try to learn something new.
