Premier Combat Sport How long do you all think it will take until MMA supplants boxing as the premier combat sport in the US. I give it another year, I know that we all think it is superior, I am asking how long until it is considered superior by the general public and what needs to happen to make others know what we already know?:afro: |
very, very long time if ever...wining over fans is easy, wining over general public is a completly different thing First and foremost you need higher pays for fighters, money-wise a talented athlete has no reason to pick anything else but boxing as a carrier choice in world of martial arts. |
It's gaining attention from ESPN and has gotten alot attention Fox Sports. That's going to help. |

mma is making major gains, but it will take years before it will supplant boxing. The vast majority of the every day casual fan will just never get the grappling side of the sport, and thus will never completely embrace it. Personally, I love watching a skilled grappler, but I understand what is going on down there. The average Joe doesn't, and thinks it is boring. |
I think that one thing that MMA has going for it is people know that boxing is crooked and that it isn't governed well. Also the lack of heavyweight superstars in boxing will help the MMA because the general public wants to see the large superstars fight and that is something that MMA provides, maybe not to the extent that it should, but at a greater scale then boxing. Boxing has lost the sport aspect of things with the faulty judging and crooked promoters, something that I don't think has leaked into MMA yet. I think that it will happen quicker then you all expect. The first thing needs to be a million dollar payday in the UFC, and the best fight for that is Liddell and Silva. |
