Herb Dean is NOT a bad referee. In fact like NinjaShogunRua, I agree he's probably one of the best under "Big" John (who has more experience in MMA refereeing than anyone). Larry Landless, now that's a bad referee.

I like Steve Mazzagatti better than Herb ,but Herb is no where near as bad as Mario Yamasaki.

Herb Dean is a great ref. Trust me when I say he knows what hes doing in there. If you are a true fight fan you would know that Dean actually fights. I know for sure he's fought for KOTC. So, Herb is not someone that has been thrown in there with no knowledge of the sport. When he sees someone in serious danger, he knows what to do!

larry landless has fought in kotc before too and he's a horrible, horrible ref.

I've said it before & I'll say it again. Herb is a good ref, but he'll be a great ref if he opened his mouth every now & again & spoke to the fighters.

BJM is constantly barking at fighters to protect themselves & if they don't, well they can't argue that they weren't warned.

If Herb told Ken to protect himself after elbow 3 & no reaction, fine. Same goes for AA taking bombs from Sylvia, but he doesn'tt & stops the fight.

You could argue that the fighters know to protect themselves & it's not the referees job to remind them. However, as a fighter you may think that the punches being thrown are nothing, whereas the ref sees them as being dangerous.

Pride refs talk alot to the fighters also.

Herbs call in the Tito Ken fight was right there on the borderline. You can make a strong argument either way. In the end he is still one of the best refs out there and ppl need to lay off of him.

Herb Dean did Ken Shamrock a favor by stopping the fight early making it a controversy instead of the brutal knock out it would have been if the fight lasted any longer. People still think Shamrock had a chance in that fight... I find it funny.

You guys need to start listing all the fights that Herb has stopped early or fucked up...I don't think you really have a leg to stand on other than the fact that you personally don't like him.

He fucked up the Ken/Tito fight other than that I haven't seen him ever make a major mistake.Even the best refs make mistakes.He's still a good ref.

Herbs stop was alittle early but he didnt fuck it up. Ken was getting ass raped. Herb did him a favor. Now Ken can continue to be delusional about his fights with Tito and life in general.
