chuck knows how to wrestle too though. hes all around nowadays. boxers would have to go completely against their element to do mma. no wraping the opponent up, no stop for a knockdown, longer rounds, and kicks would make them too awkward

That's what I mean. Underestimate. Most boxers know how to avoid being clinched by using footwork. I don't thing that stopping for knockdowns is a problem since most of them hit the guys as they are on the ground anyway. And contrare, kicks make the kicker more vulnerable. Now the plodding heavyweights are another issue.

footwork will not stop any decent wrestler from taking you down. and i meant them dealing with getting kicked. boxing has only the hands and occasional head to worry about as a threat. throw them in mma and theres 8 for striking and plus the takedowns. they wouldnt do too great if they committed themselves to boxing

The only boxers to have a chance would be the heavyweights where there are less takedowns and its more stand up. The smaller guys would get taken down and submitted in seconds. just picture the Stout Florian fight and that's what would happen to any of those guys.

I gotta go with Chris Byrd. He's a very solid boxer and I read somewhere that he is a Blue Belt in BJJ, so that would definitely come in handy in MMA.

"awesome thread....of course the most obvious answer is Mike Tyson in his prime. But I think Mike even now can unleash hell in 3 five minute rounds even at his age now.The simple fact is boxers are better conditioned athletes. The one element that is not fully represented in MMA is championship caliber boxers.I think especially someone like Tim Sylvia who would want to trade would get annihalated in about 20 seconds...that would be bad for mma,and as much as I'd want to see it because I'm a huge Tyson fan...I wouldn't want it to happen because it would hurt the sport of mma."

I didn't know it was a fact that boxers are better conditioned atheletes than MMA fighters. Nor did I know it was a given Tim Sylvia would stand and trade with Mike Tyson lol.

Come on.
