From the way everyone was talking i was expecting way higher purses for the fighters. After looking at that and considerig 90% of the card is well known the pay is comparable to UFC except UFC headliners make more. They did nothing to impress me with their fighter payouts and now i don't see them being a legitimate threat to the UFC ever. |
The gate couldnt even pay for Bas LOL!! You know Bas got a win percentage and he said he got a portion of PPV buys. |
were they paying ricco rodriguez by the pound? |

The 2 highest paid fighters in UFC are Chuck at $250,000 and now that Tito is back he is #2 on the pay list at $200,000. That is also including the win bonus. Hughes is at $110 with the winning bonus and Silva and AA are at around $90,000-$110,000 so Bas and Rampage were payed more than 99% of the UFC's highest payed fighters. I see the WFA doing better their next card. What I really think they should do is go afetr Melvin Manhoef, pay the man, he will join and that would be sick, Rampage, Melvin, Lindland (boring as fuck though) and Lyoto as he will be good after he gets rid of the ring rust. That is seemingly the division they are looking to build and Melvin is the best available fighter out there (not sure about his current contract and how much it would cost to breech it but it would be worth it for the WFA). But they certainly need to make more pickups or create another super card and it needs to be more stacked next time. They should've seen it coming a mile away that the Rampage vs Lindland fight was going to suck as Lindland is so damn boring to watch. Any MMA fan should support the WFA though becasue if they fall off Dana White will allow these ridiculous fight cards like UFC 62! This is going to be the first UFC in 3 years that I do not order, I am so pissed about this card. Griffin vs Bonnar is way too early and Bonnar has not pregressed like Forrest has, this is going to be a one sided fight in Griffin's favor IMO but why not wait another year for this fight when they both have more polished skills? My fight cards would've looked something like this: Main Event Liddell vs Babalu Ortiz vs Wuiff (but UFC fucked that up and let him go) Vera vs Monson Bisping vs Griffin Melvin vs Homminick Swick vs Quarry (wherever he is) The fither payout would've been around $400,00 more but they would've made about $10 million dollars more in PPV's. |
Why the hell are they paying Rampage $150,000???? Let's get a reality check here. Rampage used to be good & gave exciting fights every now & again, but the fact remains that he beat Arona cos the ref didn't do his job & check if Jackson was out when Arona stopped kicking the back of his head. He recovered & got that great KO slam on one of Prides best fighters. His performances since that has been pretty poor (the Silva 2 fight was only good from a Silva fan point of view). Other then that he's been riding on the coat-tails of his win over Chuck Liddle. It's like paying prime streak prices for a hamburger. As for $200k for Rutten?!?!?.........for an exhibition fight???? (I don't care what anyone says & I'm not taking anything away from Warpath, but come on, who put money on an upset here?) OK, let's be honest & say without these 2 fighters there would be next to zero interest from a lot of mma fans, but for an organization that is trying to be more fighter friendly paying this amout for run-of-the-mill fights is gonna take you under in less than 6 minths. I can't imagine Bill Goldberg came cheap as an announcer either. Oh & another thing, if that was all Rampage could do against Lindland, WFA please don't give him more money for a rematch. |

I understand Rampage being worth alot of money once he is popular in the US (and thereby a draw) but at the moment he is unknown outside of the die-hard fans. The same honestly goes for Bas, we all want to see him fight but the average UFC fans (who are the ones who pay the bills in the end because there are so many of them) have no idea who either of them are. In my opinion the WFA did horribly from a business perspective with this event. They obviously lost a ton of money with this event and probably didn't draw in too many fans other than die-hard fans who would have supported them anyways. In my opinion they are going to need a TV deal to survive in any sort of long run. |
