| Brock Lesnar To Fight In Vegas In October http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/n...ts/15184463.htm Quote: |
Former Gophers NCAA heavyweight wrestling champion Brock Lesnar has been vigorously training near his home in Independence for an "ultimate fighting" match in October in Las Vegas. Former heavyweight boxer Scott LeDoux is training Lesnar, a former professional wrestler, for boxing, and Lesnar also has a mentor to help him improve his kicking skills.
| There are 3 MMA Events in October in Vegas:
UFC - Oct 14th
PRIDE - Oct 21st
King Of The Cage - Oct 28th...
Also there have been a ton of rumors flying around that Lesnar is training with Team Miletich. Here is a transcript of an interview confirming it: http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/news/f...rds&SF=miletich Quote:
Pat Militich is on the line.
September 23 in Moline Illinois Pat will be fighting Renzo Gracie. Dave asks
guys coming out of retirement haven’t fared well, so what does he think of
the trends and how it effects him. Pat says its all about making the IFL
work. He says he is just going to try and have a good fight with Renzo. This
is also a personal accomplishment for Pat, as he just wants to come back
from his injuries and be successful.
Dave asks what Pat attributes to the success of the Miletich gym, with
Robbie Lawler, Jens Pulver, Matt Hughes, Brock Lesnar and others training
with him. Pat says the biggest thing that motivated him is he saw a kid die in a kickboxing match because he was in there and not properly trained, and not
being in good shape. He said he would never allow someone to fight who isn't ready. He only trains guys who are willing to work to
get to those levels and anyone who sits out because he's tired is asked to leave for good.
Pat picked his IFL team mostly from his fighters, but a lot of his guys are
locked up with UFC, Pride or other companies, so he brought in some guys
from other camps.
Pat says that there are going to be 8 teams, with 12 teams planned for 2007.
Things will be in tournament format for now, but there are going to be kinks
to work out. Pat said this will be going global, with teams from Japan, and Europe
joining sometime in the future.
(Commercials)
Dave asks Pat’s opinion of Brock Lesnar. Pat says Brock is very level headed
and great to get along with, very athletic, and is remarkably fast for a 280 pound man. Pat says no human being will be able to beat Brock in a year’s time

Cool. That's the sweet thing about MMA... almost anyone can get into it if they have the dedication. It's always interesting to see how someone does when they've crossed over from some other sport. Best of luck to Brock! I hope he trains hard and puts on a good show.
I think it could only be good for MMA too, to have WWE guys crossover to MMA. Every wrestling fan knows Brock Lesnar. Some of them are going to want to see how he does in MMA.

i just hope brock goes to UFC because they could use a good new heavyweight to shake things up. they're down to about 2 contenders in vera and monson.

Well brock picked a good camp, though I think a team punishment might have suited him better. He needs to work on standup and submissions and he will be set.

I figure Miletich has a win-win situation with Lesnar. Lesnar can learn subs and striking and they have a big fast wrestler to drill takedowns with Sylvia.

He was a very good, not great, college wrestler. He won most of his matches due to overwhelming physical ability, not due to great wrestling techniques.
I watched him wrestle in person numerous times, including when he got beat by Stephen Neal(who now is the right guard for the Patriots) and University of Iowa's Wes Hand, who he outweighed by a good 30-35 pounds.
He has got a very explosive double-leg takedown, which he used extensivly in college. Could translate well to MMA
As far as I can recall, he didn't seem to gas at the end of matchs, as is the custom of many of the "muscle head" HWTS.
One thing i question is if he will be able to get down to 265, in the WWE he looked much bigger than 265. Plus, didn't he have some kind of shoulder injury in the WWE that forced him to quit?

He's honeslty a freak of nature in terms of athletic ability. For being 280 he's agile as hell on his feet. He's gonna give Sylvia a big advantage in his upcoming fight with Monson. If Sylvia can keep Lensar from taking him down Monson sure hell won't be able to.
