what is k-1 hero?

what is it and is it considered "mma". ive seen Ryoto Machida vs Baby Jay Penn in k-1 and they said "mma rules" but what is the whole deal?

It's K1's MMA Division it has the same basic MMA rules except:

K-1 MMA
*Uses 3x5 minute rounds.
*Prohibits elbow strikes to the head.
*No weight classes.
*Do not use tournament format as in K-1.

They have weight classes, at least now they do since they are holding a 155 and 187 lb. tournaments.

Yeah and for the LHW(187 lb.) tourney they will be using 10 minute 1st round, 5 minute 2nd round format.

Yeah they have some great and exciting fighters. Former Pride HW contender Heath Herring who left Pride because he is in the sport to be a champion and when you are in an organization with Fedor, Big Nog and Cro Cop (and now Barnett as well), it just won't ever happen so he was wise to leave as he is a great fighter but go pummeled by Fedor, subbed by Big Nog and ate one of the nastiest liver kicks I've seen in mma via a Cro Cop roundhouse so he was there but was not able to deafeat the 1,2 and 3 ranked HW's in the world respectively.

K-1 heros also has/had Kid Yamamoto who is a LW and may very well be the best LW in the world, it would either be him, Gomi or Sherk when Sherk makes his LW debut (he is going to dominate that weight class for so many years IMO), they also have the most exciting fighter in MMA (most would agree, he and Fedor are the most exciting to watch) Genki Sudo.
They have also picked up Brock Lesner and I think he is expected to make his MMA debut in October?

The K-1 Heros is continuing to build their fighter pool and they have as deep if not deeper pockets than PRIDE (UFC comes nowhere near these 2 organizations financially at the moment) so I would expect a musical chair atmosphere where they will get some PRIDE fighters, maybe some UFC and they seem to be on theri way to becoming as good as PRIDE at recruiting new and generally unknown fighters that will turn out to be superstars.

K-1 also picked up Kazushi Sakuraba, the only man to submit a Gracie under MMA rules, which he's also done twice

In some areas, their talent pool has a little to grow, but they have two of the top 10 LWs in the world in Kid and Sudo.

BTW, does anybody know when Heroes 6 will be broadcasted?
i can't find a live broadcast listed on PPV anywhere, and i hope i dont have to wait

Probably not for a couple of months. HERO's 5 just barely debuted on PPV a few weeks ago. HERO's doesn't air live in the US unfortunately.

thanx, 3x5 minuet rounds is better the fighters have more energy

no elbows at all?

NinjaShogunRua 08-05-2006 10:48 AM

you can elbow the body, just not the head.
