Originally announced on his website’s forum that he would not be participating at Pride Bushido 12, MMAWeekly has confirmed that Chris Brennan will indeed be fighting at the event. Brennan will face Tatsuya Kawajiri on the undercard of the Bushido welterweight tournament.
The UFC and Pride veteran was bitten on the outside of his knee by a Brown Recluse spider, one of the few spiders in the United States that can cause serious harm to humans. The painful injury required immediate surgical attention and the estimated recovery time interfered with his training schedule. Initially, Brennan expressed his disappointment and hoped that Pride could move the fight to the November Bushido show. However, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt has decided to take the fight as scheduled and resumed training, despite his painful injury.
Brown Recluse spiders are known by the violin shaped marking on the back head and neck area and are very venomous. According to eMedicineHealth.com, the bite of a Brown Recluse can be very painful, can cause necrosis (death) of the skin and tissue, and can cause death (only reported in ‘children younger than seven years’). The venom of the brown recluse is also more potent than that of a rattlesnake.
