ahh Matt Hughes still makes me sick

fights I liked were Guillard over Rick Davis, that was a sick KO But buddy.. its mixed MARTIAL arts I think Karate belongs for sure

Fisher over Wiman.. wow what a knee! thats what I missed about the UFC, the martial arts part of it.

Swick over Riggs.. didnt see that comin' Swick is a def. competitor in the UFC

Vera over Silva.. wow, everyone who said Silva would overwhelm Vera was right but Vera outsmarted him with that guillontine.. he overcame the overwhelming power of Silva, but I dotn think thats a fight Vera would win every time.

Sanchez over Alessio.. the sooner the UFC stops givin fights to there TUF fighters, the better! give me a break! Alessio won that match.. but Diego's monkey-like fighting style in round 3 was impressive

Hughes over Gracie.. added this one but didnt like it, it was sad seein that hypocrit beat Gracie =/

Default Thoughts

We should've had a UFC 60 chat thread but no one made one in time so we have like 5. I'll just put my thoughts here. The ppv was ok imo. Swick had his official coming out party, fought very smart and pulled a choke out of nowhere. Leben might not get so lucky against Silva BUT if he does i say match these two up for Swick/Leben 2 for a possible #1 contender match.

My boy Vera did it again! You onboard yet Boone? Vera fought this fight very confident and very smart even though you could see how nervous he was coming to the cage. He was trading kicks with Silva and neither landed solid shots but you could see they both knew who had the better kicks. A great job by Vera finishing Silva with the guilliotine, i wasn't expecting him to finish this fight unscathed like he did. I bet Sylvia and AA had their eyes peeled for that fight. With the bad blood between Sylvia and Vera that could be a very intersting and entertaining fight in the near future.

Wiman impressed me a lot and almost pulled an upset over Fisher. He started to showboat at the wrong time when he was hurt and paid for it. He's still a threat at 155lbs if the UFC keeps him. Still i don't see anyone threatening Sherk unless BJ comes back down.

Dean Lister put a submission clinic on tonight. He looked as sharp as ever. I didn't expect Sakara, someone who trains with a top bjj team, to get submitted like that. Kudos to Lister, Sakara will be back for sure.

The last one i'm going to talk about is Hughes/Gracie. Gracie being gi-less this fight really hurt him. I seen a few spots he would've definately used it effectively. How he didn't get his arm broke is beyond me. He still did fairly well hanging with Hughes for a while but once his back was turned it was over. He was hurt by a punch and could do nothing else. While Hughes looked great against Gracie, i will still be picking GSP in their rematch.

Decent card but i expected more excitement. Oh well bring on Pride, UFN, TUF 3 Finale, and UFC 61!

Default **UFC 60 Feedback Thread**

Everyone post your general feedback on the show here. Fight of the night thread is kind of a specific-type thread, so this one is just general comments from the PPV.

two things.

first i agree with what most of cruz said and i already stated how i am eating my words in regards to vera and swick and that they showed they are deservinig of the hype now.

first loved the show lister put on. thats how dangerious a guard can be and even a guy training with BTT couldnt stop anything dean had.

and the hughes royce fight was pretty much a joke and im kinda sad the way royce looked. you talk about him needing the gi but ive never liked a guy wearing the gi in mma it never seems to be to his advantage IMO but the way it looked it was a joke so whatever the UFC got what they wanted and now can puch hughes as the greatest UFC fighter ever. have fun.

I'm with Kass101. I eat my words on both Vera and Swick as well. I still don't like Swick's chances against Rich Franklin, or Dan Henderson...any of the top-top Middleweights, but he's definitely in the hunt. "The real deal" as they say. With Vera, I think I might even be on his bandwagon now. I always like good talkers, especially one's who have exciting (and successful) fighting styles. I think Vera has all that. Like I said when saying before that I didn't understand all the Vera hype so early, I did admit the Eilers fight was very impressive, and that if he beat Assuerio Silva in similar fashion then I might be on board. Well, I'm on board. I still don't think he should be fighting at Heavyweight, as I think someone like Tim Sylvia or Andrei Arlovski would simply be too big for him, I do agree he's the man at the moment, and is a lot better fighter than I originally thought.

I thought the Alessio/Sanchez battle was wild. Did anyone else catch the MMANews.com logo on Alessio and his whole camp's t-shirts before or during the fight? Obviously I did, but I was looking specifically for it so I was wondering if anyone else noticed. The first shock of the fight was the ease in which Alessio was stuffing Sanchez's takedowns. The second shock of the fight was that despite avoiding the ground and forcing Sanchez to stand like he wanted, Alessio really didn't do anything on his feet but pose. The third shock was Sanchez getting the standing back control on Alessio...then remaining there for the entire round! That was the craziest thing I've seen in MMA in a while (at least in the category of stuff that happens DURING a fight and that is legal, there is the ocassional hospital brawl, Chute Boxe/Hammer House in ring confrontation, etc.) I thought Sanchez won a close decision just because he did get some takedowns, he was scoring on the feet while Alessio wasn't doing much, and was more aggressive and trying harder to finish the fight at all times in all positions. However, the judge who scored it 30-27 might have a nice stash of crack in his back pocket. Just a guess.

Lister's submissions were awesome as expected. I wrote in my column that I couldn't believe people had him an underdog, it seemed so obvious. He'd get tagged and not like it, somehow get it to the ground, and likely submit him. If he didn't, and Sakara was brutal with GnP, I said Lister would be extremely busy underneath and it'd be a controversial judges decision. Thankfully we didn't have that, but Lister was busy and did a cool triangle, kind of a reverse triangle one of the BJJ nuts on here I'm sure can help me out with the exact name. Lister said he'll be fighting at 185 though, and someone else who Riggs said he's going back to 170. Why the fuck don't these people fight at their normal weights? 205 in UFC could use a Dean Lister. Who's got really good submissions at 205 in the UFC right now? Yeah! 185 though, shit, there's a new contender for Franklin once he debuts at MW and gets a win under his belt.

Gonzaga gon-blabla. Even winning and having a decent finish to the first round, and stopping his opponent in the second, just wasn't really impressed with him again. Would have rather seen the Horn-Sonnen III submission aired in its' place.

Fisher-Wiman holy shit what a fight. I was on the phone with my buddy this documentary filmmaker who was at the show (he spent a week in the hotel with Riggs, Horn, Alessio, Fisher, and other Miletich guys filming a documentary) and I was on with him the whole time this fight was going on. I was praying they'd air it on the PPV, and thankfully they did. I'm glad I got to see with my own eyes what all the noise in the arena during that fight was about. Awesome finish with the flying knee, reminiscint of James Irvin over Terry Martin in that it landed and he knew it was over and just walked away. Awesome punch landed before the knockout shot that Wiman tried playing off, which wound up being his demise.

Hughes-Gracie was awesome in its' own way. At first I was surprised how well Gracie was not only keeping up with Hughes, but almost shutting his whole gameplan down with weird kicks and shit keeping distance on the feet. He seemed real composed and like he had a plan and it was gonna work cause if he could keep that up, then shit on the ground you know there's always danger of him catching a submission. Unfortunately when it hit the ground Hughes was in complete side control, and Gracie rarely had any good positions even underneath to work from. Once Hughes got his back it was pretty much over, and even before that with the armlock. I'd say I'm surprised Gracie didn't tap, but I'm not. I am surprised his facial expression remained 100% the same not only throughout the submission attempt but from his octagon walk to the post fight interview he had the exact same look on his face lol.

Randy Couture was a nice touch to the announcing team. I thought it'd throw the Rogan-Goldberg chemistry off and change the tempo of the show, but it didn't it only added to it and made it better. I hope they keep using him for future shows, it's a good role for him.

All in all a great show, considering the matchmaking we had some excellent fights - everything that made PPV was good so there's really nothing to complain about unless you wanna be overly picky and whine that they stopped the Gracie fight too soon. I personally would have like to see them let the 20 seconds or whatever go and get a second round out of whatever 1.3 million dollars or whatever they spent on Gracie fighting for them, but I wasn't the one getting brutally pounded by Hughes so I completely understood the stoppage despite the time.

yeah I was bummed they didn't show the Horn vs Sonnen fight too. Props to Brandon Vera, I am a believer in the truth now. Silva is a solid vet and he made quick work of him.

vera should stay at HW because there are no fights at that weight that put him in and danger. hes better on the feet then anyone in the division and better on the ground then anyone. so he really has nothing to worry about in that regard. if he drops to lhw he has a guy like chuck to contend with on the feet and a guy like babalu to contend with on the ground.

people keep saying they cant believe royce didnt tap to the arm bar or whatever it was but he was never in any trouble. hughes couldnt have subbed him from there and it was just goldberg talking it up because hughes looked like he was trying it. there was nothing there.

finally i liked randy on commentary and i hope hes part of the team from now on.
