I don't see how so many people can blame Dana White for this.....Was he going to put Silva in the cage in a stare down with Chuck, announce a fight, with Silva wearing a Pride shirt, give Pride all this free publicity months before their big USA debut........just to say fuck it and pull it off the table???
Think about it rationally and it doesn't make sense....Sure Dana should've had a 100% guarantee, but I think he probably thought he did........

Even though Pride has a much larger live gate.....how many of those 50,000 are comp'd or organized crime giveaways......and the real money is made on PPV buy rates anyway.....does anyone know what kind of buy rates Pride gets???

ok this is all i have heard first about the chuck/silva fight not happening secondly about the fedor/sylvia bullshit going around now that its all the ufc and that pride would love to send there fighters (silva-fedor) to fight the ufc guys and it is in no way prides fault well if you ask me its a bunch of bullshit ok they both have something to lose say chuck beats silva then wow how good does it look now for prides mw champion that has reigned supreme forever look now not worth a fuck and how about if sylvia somehow beat fedor well that makes the invincible man prides hw champ look like a pussy because almost everyone here hates sylvia and thinks hes a shitty fighter so if by some grace of god he did beat fedor which i dont think would happen that makes prides champion look like crap so then they would have a mw and hw champ that have lost to both ufc champs and would have no chance at taking ufc over in america so yes pride does have something to lose they have a lot to lose now say silva beats chuck what does ufc lose there lhw champ loses but so what he's pushing forty everyone feels chuck is close to retiring and wont be around to much longer so that really doesnt matter im just tired of hearing every fucking body here saying that pride has everything to gain and ufc has it all to lose if either fight happens when thats total bullshit because chuck has a damn good chance at taking silva and sylvia has a decent chance with fedor or at least a better chance than most of you are giving him which is none the ones i'm talking to know who you are and know that your pride nuthuggers and that pride is the greatest thing since sliced fucking bread and the ufc is just bologna

When I spoke of risk and gain, I was refering to the obvious point that Pride need to break into America. If Fedor loses they have not lost much - all the real mma fans would still love Pride in the knowledge that they still put on awesome matchups between great fighters. If he wins, however, the casual UFC fans would immidiately stand up and take notice. He has a pretty good chance of winning too imho.

Yes but lets say the Sylvia Fedor match did happen and Sylvia pulls off the upset. That in the eyes of alot of casual american mma fans would make the UFC look like the better promotion. So imo Pride would have alot to lose.

UFC advertised this shit on a PPV. And imo that tells me that Dana really wanted this fight to happen for two main reasons. Firstly, big big money. And Secondly, its hardcore mma fans wet dream. And imo Dana knows keeping the hardcore mma fans is very very important bc we are the solid fans base that isnt going anywhere. So with that being said I think if anybody fucked the deal up then it was Pride. Not sure why possibly just trying to get some american exposure at the expense of the UFC.

I think the vast majority of casual US fans currently see the UFC as the best (if not the only) promotion , so no I still think Pride have little to lose.

There's already been several threads dedicated to speculations such as this. It all boils down to nobody knows, and the debates are inconclusive. Believe me, I could argue for it not being Pride's fault very easily, or UFC's, or Chuck's, or Wand's. We'll find out soon enough I hope, but until then

Dana White has come out and said that the pride organization is hard to negotiate with. Until Pride comes out and tells there side we have to go with what Dana White says as the truth. That leads most of us to believe that for some reason Pride back out. Now because of that its easy to believe that Pride will make any claim about Tim Sylvia when they know they will never let the fight happen. Thats why everyone keeps bringing Chuck vs Silva up. Its pretty obvious that your 100% for Pride and thats fine I dont care. The real truth is until both organizations pull there head out of there ass we will never see this fight or any other Pride vs UFC fight. So we need to stop arguing about fights that are not gonna happen and debate fights that will happen.

Dana wanted a 3 fight contract with Silva, that's assinine, everyone knows this... Pride probably wanted a single fight contract like normal people when bringing in a top fighter from another organization and UFC would not budge so Pride probably said fuckit, we're going to be return the favor and be dicks as well. So they went on to tell UFC yes everything is fine and we will honor the 3 fight contract blah blah, before Dana had enthing signed he put them in the stare down thinking Sakakibara's word meant something.

It means about as much as Dana White's so Pride used it as free publicity and it worked wonders as Silva's name was heavily searched on the internet the following day.

From an business perspective I would've done the same thing... Seriously who the fuck thinks they have the right to a 3 fight contract with the #1 ranked LHW in the world, UFC thinks they have more power than they actually do.

They should've just agreed to a 1 fight contract and after that was over, I'm sure Pride would've been happy to provide another 1 fight contract.

It all seemed very strange anyway with Dana announcing the fight when Chuck is set to face Babalu and then Dana goes onto say "if Chuck gets past Babalu Sobral", it just left me with a funny feeling that the fight was not going to take place.
