| EliteXC: Jake Shields vs. Mike Pyle - Nov. 10th Quote: SHIELDS, PYLE TO COLLIDE Welterweights Will Square Off At EliteXC Event Nov. 10 By Mike Russell (gfn@thefightnetwork.com)
Cesar Gracie protégé Jake Shields will face Xtreme Couture welterweight Mike “Quicksand” Pyle at the next EliteXC event Saturday, Nov. 10, according to Shields’ father and manager, Jack Shields. Event location and additional match-ups have not been announced.
“Mike is a great fighter, and Jake has wanted to fight him for a while,” the elder Shields said. “He’s training hard for this fight and is really looking forward to this opportunity.”
Shields (19-4-1) holds a unanimous decision win over current WEC Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit and is undefeated since 2005; he defeated Renato Verissimo (7-5) by first-round TKO at EliteXC “Uprising” Sept. 15 in Hawaii. Shields, 28, has quietly climbed up the 170-pound ladder, having reeled off eight consecutive wins – a string that includes conquests of current UFC middleweight contender Yushin Okami, former UFC Middleweight Champion Dave Menne and Condit.
Pyle (14-4-1), whose manager, Ken Pavia, intimated Friday afternoon that the fight was “all but a done deal,” defeated Aaron Wetherspoon (6-2) by unanimous decision at Strikeforce “Shamrock vs. Baroni” in June. He is one of only two men to hold victories over current UFC welterweight contender Jon Fitch, having submitted the Indianan by rear-naked choke in 2002. It sounds like Elite is a player to get the Kimbo vs. Tank fight on this card, so something tells me Shields will not be main eventing just yet.

It's so sad that two non-MMA fighters would be the main event over someone as good as Sheilds. It's time he mopped the floor with GSP or Fitch just so he finally gets some recognition.

To be honest i really don't see anyone out side the UFC giving this guy a good fight. Well besides like Mach an those guys, but i mean anyone in Elite or strike force.

Mike"Quicksand"Pyle is pretty good, but if he went to the movies w/ Jake Shields,he'd get in for 1/2 price.Shields will probably make him look like Gomer Pyle in the cage.I'm sure I've seen Pyle fight @ MW a few times in the IFL.I hope making the cut to 170 LBs doesn't take a toll on him & make him gas early in the fight.

Shields is the better wrestler, Pyle the better striker
its pretty even in BJJ, enough to make me think Shields would have big trouble finishing, plus considering what camp Pyle comes out of.
i expect a competitive fight that Shields wins on takedowns and control from the top, barring something crazy from Pyle.

This should be an awesome fight
Pyle is the better striker but Shields is better on the ground even though their BJJ is very close.
These two fighters are very exciting and should both be in the ufc IMO. I see Shields winning this by controlling the fight on the ground for all three rounds pulling off a unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
This should definetly be the main event and I would love to see them both fight for a title but I suppose that won't happen. Oh well, awesome fight nonetheless, great job Elite Xc
I hope they add better fights than Tank vs. Slice to this card, I wouldn't mind seeing Frank Fight or another big name vs. big name fight

There is maybe, maybe, 1 other fighter at WW better at BJJ than Shields and thats Serra. Shields should win this fight. He's finished his last several opponents (none were in his league), and has drastically improved his stand up. Shields will win, mostly because he is nearly flawless in the ring. Once the fight goes to the ground, I give Pyle ZERO chance to win.
