i really like seeing rich franklin with the belt. i think he should switch to lightweight. what do you guys think?

From MW to LW skipping WW?

I am not sure Rich could make 155. I think if he could cut to 170 he'd be a dangerous contender at WW, but the problem is that the UFC WW division is stacked.

And at LHW, I think Rich would have a similar stumbling block with Rampage that he has with Anderson Silva.

Rich Franklin should switch to LW? Are you crazy? Rich is a big MW.. Rich would have to cut an extra 15 pounds just to get to WW.


And by the chance that you meant LHW.. that division is so stacked right now and I don't think Franklin would have much of a chance. There is a handful of people in front of him for a shot as well.

lightweight? do you mean light heavyweight

He already fought at light heavyweight and got defeated by Machida. He dropped down and had a good run at MW. He's a big middle weight to. I don't think Rich has many options right now.

he has the same options as pretty much everyone at 185


i think he should move up to lhw, take a couple fights there, see how it goes, if silva is still champ in a year stick around at 205, if someone else is he can go back down and challenge for the belt there. but i could be dreaming too


edit: also his loss to machida was 4 years ago, i hope hes improved since then

He fought Machida at heavyweight (99kg) but yeah, moving up to 205lbs doesn't help him since Lyoto is waiting there for him. Rich's best bet is to be the face of some other show's 185lb division. HCF, maybe?

There's a lot of intriguing fights for Rich Franklin at 205. I'd like to see him fight Machida again definitely. I think he could give anyone at LHW a run for their money; Anderson Silva is just a stud at 185 who obviously as his number stylistically.

No Rich should not change weight classes. So should Lutter, Leben, Nate all switch classes to because their not going to beat Anderson ever.

Rich should change camps. He needs to change camps badly. Rich is by far the best at his camp, so its hard for him to improve. Going somewhere like Randys or Aka he won't be the best an will actually have people challenging him to make him better.

A move up or down for Rich is out of the question at this point. He's an enormous MW, so cutting to WW would probably just about kill him. And LHW is just so fucking stacked right now...I think he could take out a few of the top guys; he'd probably beat Forrest, Jardine, Bisping, Rashad, maybe even Houston or Chuck. But no way he holds it together with Hendo and Rampage.

He's kind of at an impasse right now. He's going to have to notch about eight first round KOs before he gets another shot at the title while Silva's the champ. No matter how many times he works his way back up, a third fight when you've already lost two is just not that marketable, and unfortunately that's an angle that HAS to be considered.
