HACNews.com's JR recently caught up with WEC Lightweight champion "Razor" Rob McCullough. "Razor" Rob talks on numerous topics including his Muay Thai background, his thoughts on his fights with Kit Cope and Rich Crunkilton, thoughts on other fighters, fighting in the UFC, and much more!
JR: Hey this is JR with HACNews.com and I’ve got here with me today, the 5 time Muay Thai Champion and WEC Lightweight Champion, Razor Rob Mccullough. Rob how you doing man?
RM: Good good good. Really good.
JR: First of all what are your Muay Thai Credentials and is there any credibility to Kit Cope saying your titles are only amateur titles?
RM: IMTC Intercontinental Welterweight Champion and the 5 time Muay Thai association Welterweight Champion…and umm…well actually there are too many to list but in total there’s about eleven belts. And the IMTC one is the professional one, so Kit Cope was right about that.
JR: Before we get onto your career got a quick question, do you feel Tito is losing a step?
RM: I don’t think Tito is losing a step I just think he’s becoming a businessman and a fighter and figuring out his place in the sport.
JR: What are your thoughts on Kit Cope and do you feel he was not 100% in that fight as he claimed in our interview with him? Also was that fight easier or harder than you expected?
RM: I kind of pictured me finishing him that way, I didn’t think it would be so quick but oh well. As far as him being a hundred percent, I think that was his A-Game. The transition from Muay Thai to MMA has not gone as well for him.
JR: What about Crunkilton, did that fight go easier than expected and did you expect Crunkilton to try and stand and trade as much as he did?
RM: Well see, I thought it might go that way. He had a very good record and everything. In most of his fights he came to the center of the cage to trade and one thing I noticed was he would go from Southpaw to Orthodox and I thought, ”Right there I’m going to bust him in the face” his hands are real low. Now it’s cute and everything to try to stand and trade but to do it with your hand down against someone who hits like me, it’s not smart.
JR: Who are you training your grappling with?
RM: Juliano Prado, Zach White, Randy Valors, and I got a camp of guys who come in and bounce.
JR: What are your thoughts on Urijah Faber and how would a fight against him go whether Faber moved up or if you could cut down?
RM: I could never make 145 but he could come up. Urijah’s a great grappler and I’m bigger but if we ever fought I would come out on top. His grappling is great plus he’s good on his feet. But still winner, Razor Rob!!!
JR: That’s a dream match of mine to see you two go at it.
RM: Yeah you mean a dream match kind of like Randy and Fedor?
JR: Yeah, speaking of that what are your thoughts on that?
RM: I’m not in the loop but the best thing is that I found out from some random guy at the grocery store. He said Randy retired and I said, ”NO! He’s got the belt now he’s not retired”. Here we are in the grocery store arguing and then I get home and dammit he’s retired.
JR: Yeah it’s crazy from days when it was outlawed to now whenever you sign onto yahoo you can see news about the UFC or MMA as a whole.
RM: Yeah I’m glad my passion finally paid off. People used to tell me to get a real job and I would always think, yeah go train for a few months then lay it all on the line in a cage or ring and tell me it’s not a real job.
JR: Yeah, I mean I train a little, nothing serious but it’s definitely a workout and something serious.
RM: When I was doing it you weren’t going to buy a home but now people are doing that.
JR: To quote Rampage, "Have you seen Dan's [Henderson] house?"
RM: [Laughs]
JR: What are your thoughts on steroids and the whole Sherk incident that's going on.
RM: Yeah you know they test before fights, you think people would remember or know that. I’m not an advocate but if you're going to do steroids, it's more about getting bigger but fights are still owned with technique, think about it, more muscles need more oxygen.
JR: If Sherk were to be found guilty, that would leave the UFC's Lightweight title in limbo. Do you have any interest in joining the UFC ranks to compete for that title or are you content right now remaining the WEC Lightweight champion?
RM: Well it’s all the same company. If Zuffa wanted to do a unification thing I would be totally down.
JR: Would you rather fight BJ Penn or Joe Stevenson?
RM: I’m a fighter, put them in front of me and the fight is on. I make no choices, tell me who to fight and I’ll do it.
JR: If you did go to the UFC is there anyone you'd like to fight first?
RM: I don’t really got my eye on anybody in particular.
JR: Who would you like to fight next out of Jamie Varner and Alex Karalexis?
RM: Those two names have been going around a lot. Varner’s the one who I think is going to be victimized next.

RM: Tall, dark hair, nice build, and nice ass.
JR: Can I say Jessica Biel?
RM: Hell yeah!
JR: Jessica Alba or Jessica Biel?
RM: Oh Damn. Both, I won’t take one over the other.
JR: Dana White said the same thing in a recent interview, he wanted both so I’ll allow it.
RM: [Laughs]
JR: What was the hardest thing that ever happened to you in your life that made you stronger.
RM: Growing up with six sisters.
JR: I get enough time around my ONE girlfriend. I can’t imagine six sisters, did you ever get dressed up?
RM: Just believe me it was rough.
JR: Describe yourself to your fans, not the fighter "Razor", just Rob.
RM: I get up regardless of the night before. Usually a lot of drinking. I go to the gym early do my thing and hang out. Eat at sugar shack, same place I’ve eaten forever. Talk about fights all night. I shower, get back to the gym, then the night is crazy! Night club, strip clubs, and then I do it all over again just like in 'Groundhog Day.'
JR: When you first saw Mixed Martial Arts, who were the people you were looking at and saying, i want to be like them?
RM: Well I went to School with Tito and he was doing MMA and I was doing Muay Thai. I was content punishing people’s faces. Then I saw fighters like Frank Shamrock and others doing the stand-up and the grappling.
JR: How do you think Frank’s doing now?
RM: He seems to be a little banged up on his shoulder. But he did good against Baroni, he picked Phil apart.
JR: When are you going to adopt the nickname "The New Huntington Beach Bad Boy?"
RM: I don’t need to, everybody already knows.
JR: Alright before I let you go Rob, are there any sponsors you would like to mention or comments for your fans?
RM: For Sure. Anybody want some merchandise go to Razorrob.tv. Training tips of the month, bio, Punishment Athletics, Pico’s Picosa, and more. Hey fans when life gives you lemons make lemonade!
JR: And when life gives you Muay Thai gloves?
RM: You punch people’s faces in.
[Both laugh]
JR: Alright Rob thanks for your time and we wish you luck in your next fight.
RM: Thanks man have a great one. | :-) All credit goes to Livebyit_Fightbyit

i hope the Varner/Rob fight happens. Varner is much more deserving of a title fight than Karalexis. Verner dominated in his last WEC fight while Karalexis could have lost that decision. i would pick Varner as the favorite, but i would not count Rob out with those hands he's got. if it stays on the feet, it could be a bad night for Jamie...

next is Karalexis, but if Rob gets to fight Jamie, Jamie will beat him standing and on the ground
and if Rob starts stepping up the Thai and throwing kicks if he cant outbox Jamie, hes getting taken down, and i know he doesnt have the guard to catch Jamie
