| Hate for Kimbo
I noticed many people dislike Kimbo Slice very much. Maybe it's because he used to fight in the street and people think it gives MMA a bad name, but, what many people forget is that MMA was fought on the street before the TV deal.
1 Rickson Gracie felt the only way to prove himself was to fight in the street. He even boasts about a 300 and 0 record. Although some of his fights have been in tournis.
2 Marco Ruas who is known as the king of the streets, made a name for himself by fighting all comers in the street for money. He also boasted a 300 and 0 record.
3 Tank Abbott fought in bars and loved it.
I'm sure there are many more, but these are just a few. Now can I get a reasonable excuse besides him being big, black, and ugly, to why Kimbo Slice is hated so much after doing something other beloved fighters did before getting into MMA?

I started out not liking Kimbo, because it was more of a novelty to me and I felt it kind of catered to the lowest common denominator. I didn't want MMA turning into a trailer park specticle. It doesn't realy bother me about his streetfighting because thats where most of these guys start. Kimbos got a great trainer and seems to be serious about it so Im coming around.

I haven’t seen the h8ers as much as you I guess. I do see some folks wanting to see him fight, and succeed. With his street fighting, he’s chosen a good foundation in Bas camp, and I hope to see him do well. I’m gonna give two years before he’s a real threat, but he’s well on his way. He even quit smoking, drinking, and sex – for the time being anyway.

You could argue that you don't like him because of his association with the porn industry. Or, maybe that's one of the main reasons you do like him.

i agree w/ both chico and harlem that there is too much hatin goin on w/ kimbo. everyone knows that most fighters started out on the streets. the pioneers of this great sport had to due to the lack of availability of sanctioned fights. i know i got into it because i was good at street fighting and i'm willing to be there are a few others that agree w/ me.

Kimbo's as handsome as a turtle dove - What's this about him being ugly?
Ever since Bas Rutten opted for the guy, I've been hoping Kimbo's for real. About being a professional, and changing his sketchy life around. So far, I've only heard good things. And not from Joe Schmoe - But from Bas. I don't think it's CRAZY to keep a cautious eye on the guy, but I'm not about to dismiss his commitment to the sport due to his history - Of which, I'm sure, if you dug around every fighter/person, everyone has. He seems to have put all that stuff behind him, and more importantly - Realizes the opportunity being handed to him in the fastest growing sport in the world. He's got a leg up, and he's not going to screw it up over some dumb shit. I really believe (or hope, at least) in Kimbo's future in MMA.

I think the whole Youtube hype with his street fights is pretty lame, but ever since he started training with Bas and giving some interviews that imply he's taking it seriously, I've changed my opinion of him. He seems like a decent guy.
Oh yeah, he must have one hell of a chin to survive being hit with an ugly stick as hard as he was.

Does he have any convictions?
