Question Sponsors: How much do fighters get?

How much do fighters get to stick a company's name on their shirt? Or shorts, hat, whatever. Petty question, but I've always been curious.

This could probably have gone in the General MMA Questions thread.

The answer is that there is no one answer. It depends on a ton of factors.

  • How much money the company has to give, or can afford.
  • How much much value they think the extra business will be worth from having the advertisement.
  • How popular the fighter is, how visible in the public eye. The more visible, the better the advertising for the company and so likely the more money involved.
  • If the company thinks that it's worth a big investment or a small investment depending on how they perceive the potential growth of the sport and/or the fighter.
  • How long the sponsorship would be for.
  • If it's exclusive or precludes the fighter from being sponsored by other business (IE a Coke sponsor would likely preclude you from being sponsored by Pepsi).
  • The negotiation process.

And I'm sure there are a lot more factors as well. Those are just a few that come to mind.

It's like asking how much money a basketball player gets for their shoe deal. It's an impossible question to answer in a general sense.

If you're Lebron James, you get $100 million out of high school. If you are Eric Snow, you're in the league for ten years and you would be lucky to get $1 million.

Nike will, i will almost bet within the next 2 years you will see someone like forrest griffin or rampage on a nike commercial, an probably within a year see some sprite shit.

I mean you are starting to see MMA fighters everywhere.

Movie with paul walker called bobby z has a shit load of them in it.

Chuck liddell was in Rockstar music video.

Randy was on a episode of the unit this week.

Griffin will be on Law and Order SVU really soon.

I mean this shit is just starting for them

What? Forrest? Forrest Griffin on Law & Order? SVU, Jesus. And Randy, Randy, Randy. I wonder if he's an amazing actor or something.

Nate Diaz was decked out in Marc Ecko gear the last time out.

I think you might be right. I don't know how well his personality would translate to very mainstream production, but I definitely think he is a good candidate. Especially for North American audiences.
