Strikeforce: Veteran Lightweights Face-Off in Fresno

American Kickboxing Academy 155-pound fighter Josh Thomson (Pictures) will duel fellow UFC veteran Duane Ludwig (Pictures) on Strikeforce’s October 7 event at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif., the promotion announced Sunday.

The winner of the lightweight battle will earn a shot at 155-pound Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez (Pictures), who was impressive in earning his first victory in PRIDE this weekend.

Also announced for October’s bill, David Abbott tangles with Paul Buentello (Pictures) and Wesley Correira (Pictures) confronts Ruben Villareal (

i think Cabbage's fight will actually go to decision. both of those guys have ridiculous chins. Warpath was getting bombed on, shot after shot by Bas, a guy who has knocked people out with palm strikes.
granted you can get some power into a palm strike, but a fist to the chin works cleaner.



hopefully Cung Le fights this one, or he gets another match soon, hopefully someone of note, not some bullshit can-man

I think Cung is a huge legend in Cali and owns gyms and is rich so he will stay in Strike Force and possibly be fed cans for a while and then maybe someone good but probably never a world class fighter eventhough he would have a great chance at winning the fight IMO.

The cabbage Warpath will likely go to decision as you stated, I can't remember the last time I could actually hear punches echo off smeones jaw like those huge right hands Bas was landing, amazing Warpath was still standing.

If that was Kimmo, he would've collapsed after that first one.

anyone know what the deal is with Melendez? He is the strikeforce LW champ and he just fought his first fight in pride at the Bushido tourny. And now this article says he will be defending the title back at strikeforce? So im just alittle confused.

Yeah it's just how the contract is, sam thing with Cage Rage LHW champion Melvin Manhoef as he fights in some of the big K-1 Heroes events.

Chuck vs him would be a war.

so what in his contract he has stips where he can fight elsewhere? that seems alittle odd, but hey I guess that is better for Strikeforce then losing him completely to Pride. Yea i have seen a few Manhoef fights and UFC needs him immediately. They cant just let Chuck run over the division and i dont see a real challenge anywhere in the UFC.
