I understand what BJ is trying to say about the 1-2 times a year, for the simple fact that if you are constantly training hardcore 3 months say 3 times a year...that is 9 months of beating the hell out of your body.....and remember training for a fight (especially a championship fight) is alot different then training to stay in shape. and to put yourself through torture 75% of the year will 1. burn yourself out 2. Overtrain or 3. (most importantly) Cause an Injury
I hate big timmah but look at him pretty much faught every 3-4 months when he was champ and his back was so fucked up that he had to have a "radical" new surgery that was mad risky just to be able to to come back. He said it himself that he couldn't even get out of bed without feeling massive pain in his lower back.....
The only exception to this is Anderson Silva cuz he had both his knees scoped a month b4 the lutter fight still put it to him and has defended his belt like 4 times this year..... but there is only so much that a persons body can take with out paying for it.....
Remember especially for title fights are alot more intense because the title challenger is training as hard as possible to put a hurting on you and there is a reason he is the #1 contender so you know he's pretty good.... so u gotta train harder than him.....
