I am really confused why Mezger would willingly walk away like that...it seems very strange. Does Shamrock have that much control over his fighters? If so, that was a poor decision on Shamrock's part.

I don't think that Shamrock ever realized that he had left the WWF.
I remember watching that fight for the first time and thinking that Mezger should have got the decision but Ken had no business in there talking smack to the ref or to Saku.
It also made me laugh thinking about the fact that Sakuraba had no idea what the **** Ken was even saying.

you've got a point there, I don't think anyone could have got Ken to leave the ring, but Mezger should have at least stood up for him self. Who knows, he might have won the overtime round
