Default Rumor: Cote vs McFedries at UFN 12

MMAjunkie.com

" UFC middleweight Patrick Côté (11-4 MMA, 2-4 UFC) figured he’d next fight in February; instead the fighter will take on hard-hitting Drew McFedries (6-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 12 on Jan. 23.

That’s the word from Côté. (Well, that’s the word from a small bulletin he posted on Facebook, anyway.) MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) was unable to confirm the news.

A few weeks ago, Côté posted a similar bulletin in which he estimated a February return. Instead, he’s been bumped up to the next installment of Spike TV’s live fight series. A location for the event hasn’t been confirmed, though.

Côté , a popular French-Canadian fighter who appeared on the comeback fourth season of “The Ultimate Fighter” (he was the middleweight runner-up), is riding high away after a first-round knockout victory over Kendall Grove in August. It was the second UFC win of his career — he previously scored a unanimous-decision victory over Scott Smith at UFC 67 — after kicking off his UFC career with four consecutive losses.

Keep in mind that those are the only losses of the 27-year-old’s career. The veteran of the Canadian-based TKO organization is undefeated outside the UFC.

When describing the fight, Côté stated it would be a “slugfest.” Taking into his account his opponent, it’s hard to disagree.

McFedries, a Miletich fighter, is 2-1 in the UFC with knockout victories over Alessio Sakara and Jordan Radev. His only UFC loss came to the highly ranked Martin Kampmann (via submission) at UFC 68.

The 29-year-old suffered a nasty case of staph infection with teammates Spencer Fisher and Tim Sylvia in August. The fighter needed skin grafts to fix a hole the size of a football on his leg that developed from the infection.

That infection forced McFedries off an October UFC 77 card, where he was slated to meet Marvin Eastman.

As MMAjunkie.com previously reported, UFC Fight Night 12 will also feature a fight between lightweight prospects Cole Miller and Jeremy Stephens, as well as the return of Mike Swick.

SHould be an entertaining match. I can't see it going the distance. Someone has to connect and score a knockout.

i wanna think the same thing but cote stood and took everything that leben gave him and not to mention that he went the distance w/ tito ortiz @ 205. mcfedries ko'd radev and TKo'd Sakara so we'll see. i'll lean toward McFedries i guess.

Mcfedries via Staph Infection late Rd 3 LOL jk

but seriously, i dont see this one going to the ground. if Cote plays it smart, he'll take it there, but i see him wanting to bang. and as good a chin as he has, i dont see him ladting too many strikes from Mcfedries.

Mcfedries has probably the Heaviest Hands at 185. dont read this wrong and think i said "best hands" cuz he's FAR from that, but heaviest id say he's up there. Kampmann was almost history, and we saw what happened in the Radev fight...Mcfedries by TKO, not KO cuz i think Cote's chin will allow him to withstand a few hard shots before the fight is stopped.

This seems like a perfect match up.

Neither guy is "Main Event" caliber, but both are good fighters and are just hanging outside the title picture in the MW division. I think Cote brings more skill into the cage, but McFedries is explosive and can really lay some leather.

I'm actually getting excited about this UFN. Its looking alot more appealing than this past PPV.

This is a great matchup. I think Cote wins this fight. He has more expierance and been in there with tougher oppents. I really wished that Mike Swick would have stayed at MW and would be fighting Cote
