Its a stretch, but I agree. Serra knows him winning the title was a fluke that was never supposed to happen. Hughes will destroy him, he is getting lots of publicity as champ and is trying to hold on a little longer cuz once this fight is over he is back to being a nobody. Not to mention tons of people have seen what a prick he is.

Sorry but that sounds weak to me. Serra wasn't afraid to step in with GSP, the man who demolished Hughes. And frankly GSP was a trickier matchup because he's so much more well rounded.

We don't even know where the herniation occured at. Most people fully heal from a herniated disc within 6 months. Only about half are good to go after about 6 weeks.

Without knowing anything about where the herniation happened everything that you're saying is pure speculation. I doubt Matt Serra is going to some whack-job doctor here.

Your 2-3 week recovery is great for you, but its pretty uncommon.

I think that GSP and Hughes should fight for an interim title since Serra could be out for quite awhile, far too long for a belt to just sit undefended in such a stacked division. Serra can fight the winner whenever he is ready to return.

Hopefully this can be good news. Maybe GSP/Fitch/Karo steps in on short notice to make an interim title fight in Dec. I would really like to see Fitch vs. GSP soon instead of GSP waiting around in limbo and Karo fight Hughes cause he should still be in shape and not to badly beat up from validation, making him the perfect Serra replacement.

By the time this fight happens it will have been almost 2 years. This is why the UFC should have had this fight along time ago. I really wanted to watch Hughes beat the crap out of Serra. This sucks

GSP v. Hughes seems the best option. It'd fit well with the whole nemesis theme, as they have a well documented rivalry and are even at 1-1. If Hughes has only 2-3 fights left in him, this likely would have been one of them anyway so lets just switch the order.

This sucks. I was really looking forward to this match. The timing was perfect because in late February I'll be deploying to Afghanistan and may not be able to catch the fights.

OMG all you people blaming the UFC and Matt Serra over this STOP IT, you're making your self look bad. Clearly you've never had any training on combat sports and you have no idea what you're talking about. Going into such a huge fight with a back injury its the stupidiest thing anyone could do. And BTW Serra is a fighter and is not afraid of Hughes, specially after KO'ing GSP.

Now I guess its all about finding a new opponent, I think GSP vs Hughes for the intrim tittle would be PERFECT.

OR BETTER YET... Hughes vs Anderson Silva for the MD tittle, Hughes said he would fight Silva if he retained and he did, so this is a perfect chance for him to put his money where his mouth is.

Just so you know bulging disc, and herniated disc do not equal the same thing. Herniated requires surgery a lot of the time, and a lot of the time after surgery you are never the same. Eg. no more running, weight lifting etc... Completly different injury.

I personally think Serra is a retard so I would have loved seeing him get smashed, but if he has a serious case than he is probably out for 8-12 months
