2 parties are being screwed here...
the fans who wanted to see the Hughes / Serra fight
and Hughes himself is in a tough situation.
I wish they would strip Serra.

I have a feeling that if Fitch wins he still does not get the title shot, GSP will go on to get it, Hughes will get another shot and Fitch will be left pissin in the wind

He took the fight against bj penn at ufc 63 with short notice when gsp couldnt fight.. then he faces gsp at ufc 65 less than 2 months later. He was a bigger star last year than he is this year and he didnt turn down those fights. He doesn't have a track record of turning down fights, so what makes you think that his superstardom will make him turn down a fight this time. Hughes thinks he can get beat anyone at the ww division, so I don't see why he would turn down a fight against fitch.
and I wish me n' Hughes were friends... i'll get front row seats to watch his fights |

I was unaware of some of those things you brought up.
I was just thinking that Fitch is such a tough guy and it definetly wouldnt be an easy fight for Hughes. I just thought Hughes wouldnt want to take this fight because there isnt much reward for him even if he wins. I mean, he would still get a title shot if he didnt take the fitch fight and just waited for serra to heal, right?

Liddell really didn't benefit from fighting those guys because it didnt improve his situation but just like Liddell... hughes thrives competition and would rather fight than just sit on the sidelines waiting
Hughes already waited so long, if he waits any longer, it's almost a year.
Just look at how often he competes since he started in ufc
ufc 34, ufc 36, ufc 38, ufc 40, ufc 42, ufc 45, ufc 46, ufc 48, ufc 50, ufc 52, ufc 56, ufc 60, ufc 63, ufc 65, ufc 68.... besides a few ufc's, he was almost fighting every other event, or every 3rd event...

no one has really commented on the possibility of Hughes fighting Alves...Alves is still probably in fighting shape, and could prepare for this fight better then Fitch could. id see Hughes working very hard for a takedown cuz Alves would batter him on the feet. he'd actually need to avoid leg kicks while fighting Hughes though cuz he'd probably get taken down that way.
id like to see either fight to be honest!

Agreed. Fitch has already announced that he won't even be in the country the weekend of 79.
