Yeah, but he's not really any closer to the title than he was already.
Hughes v. GSP for the interim, and whoever wins that will still have to fight Serra for the unified title. So he's still two fights back, just as he would have been if Serra hadn't been injured.

I hope GSP can pull this off but this is very short notice for a opponent like Hughes.

This basically tosses out the whole season of TUF IMO. Plus, Hughes has a way better chance against Serra than GSP. |
i agree,i never thought they would have hughes fight anyone but serra, since tuf show was hyping the fight up.or atleast have him fight a tune up fight, untill serra was ready
never thought they would match him up with a tough fight like gsp
but hughes, gsp should also be a big draw.i think serra, hughes would do better though, because of the tuf'er show

Yeah this is like UFC's gift to us for Xmas.
So it would have been Fitch vs Hughes and GSP facing the winner if Fitch wasn't unavailable for the fight?

This actually makes sense.
GSP has prepped for Hughes twice already, so short notice shouldn't be too bad. Plus, since GSP was prepping for either Hughes or Serra anyway, I'm sure he had already trained a bit for either.
Not to get lost in all this shuffle. Matt Serra is still the champion and the road to the real title still runs through him. I don't think Hughes or GSP can beat Serra (at his best). I hated the injury is keep him on the shelf for 6-18 months. All I can hope is that when he's healthy, he can still fight Hughes, and then GSP. Maybe then he'll be respected.

LOL i never thought of that haha.
Anyone know how long Serra is out for.
i seen someone put 6-18 months, if that is the case then after a year GSP Hughes or whoever else will become WW champ and no longer Interim.
if a fighter does not defend his belt within a year aren't the stripped, like Mir was.

I know I've been against GSP since his fight with Serra but there is no one in MMA I despise more than Hughes.......well, except for maybe Karo! WAR GSP!!!!
