I’m going to fight Georges St. Pierre on December 29th. I’ve got a couple reasons why I’ve made this decision and I will share those at a later time. I’ve asked for this to be for an interim title and if Matt Serra can’t fight in a year, then this would just be the title fight; but I don’t know if that is going to happen right now. I will keep you all posted.
-Matt
EDIT: This WILL BE for the interim title, so it will be a 5-round fight. -Matt

I am more interested in seeing this than I was Hughes/Serra.
Not much notice for GSP though.

I am kind of pissed. I would rather have Hughes just wait a few months and then fight Serra.
This basically tosses out the whole season of TUF IMO. Plus, Hughes has a way better chance against Serra than GSP.

I give lot of respect to GSP for stepping up and taking such a tough and important fight on short notice. Even though it looked like he had Hughes' number last time I think this will still be a very tough fight.

!!!!! Holy fuck. Hughes-GSP III!
This card definitely got a lot stronger than it was 72 hours ago. I'm much more interested, TUF hype notwithstanding, to see the rubber match between Hughes and GSP than to see Hughes-Serra.
Another big reason I'm excited for this is that Hughes ain't getting any younger. If he were 25, even 30, I'd say let's just be patient and he'll fight all of the above - GSP again, Penn again, Serra, Parisyan, Diego, Fitch, Koscheck, etc - but at his age I wasn't wild about him potentially needing to wait months to fight Serra and then more months for GSP III.
This is epic, man.

Yeah he lost last time but he has been training for a dec29 fight a lot longer than GSP. Hopefully GSP has been relatively close to the type of training he would had he known about the fight awhile ago. Either way I cant wait for this card!
WAR RUBBER MATCH!!!!!
It has been confirmed on the UFC site as well http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=news.home

That's not a LOT of time, but it's not like Tank Abbott "I was in the bar this afternoon, got a call and came in here to fight". GSP stays in good shape, so 5 weeks is a good amount of time. Quote: |

I give GSP a lot of props as one of the best fighters on earth; but Hughes has been my favorite or second-favorite fighter since I started watching MMA, and I'd be ecstatic if I could see him defeat "Rush" to regain the belt and defend another time or two vs. a Fitch, a Parisyan or even a Penn. Im koo with the 3rd part of the whole Hughes/GSP trilogy, but honestly after all the shit talk and build-up, I would rather see Hughes/Serra. A bad part about this tho is if GSP wins, will we still get a Serra/Hughes? I dont know why people didnt really wanna see Hughes/Serra. I think it would be a very interesting fight.

So this means that Serra will be out for atleast 6 or 7 months so that is way to long to wait for a ww title shot that has already been on hold for 7 months.
This is going to be a way better card then with Serra vs Hughes.
At least this way Fitch is now next in line so he is in GSPs spot.
Hughes better start working on his take downs.
