22? too old!!!! forget it!!! LOL. Just kidding brother. Listen id you're into it...go for it. Don't listen to anyone. Number one. Love it. If you don't. You'll find out within the first month of serious training. I was ranked 10th in the nation in college as a freshman in wrestling and I quit before nationals. Why? because honestly there was no money in it after college and I needed to focus. I make 6 figures now and I love what I do. What's the point of this? Think carefully. I actually know a few of the MMA guys because as you know they come from where I come from, and they've asked me why I haven't got into this. Number one, make great money without getting punched in the face, number two, I prefer, if I can help it, not to get punched in the face. This is an occupational hazzard in the MMA industry. You will no matter now good you are. Keep that in mind and...take wrestling first. lol.

Boxing is your best friend.
but ya as stated, Wrestling is the most effective to know in MMA I believe because you learn takedown defense, and takedowns and any standup fighter.. as dangerous as standup fighters are if they cant defend a takedown they pretty much lose.. see Arona-Silva for an example. Wrestling is probably the easiest to learn, ive never wrestled but I got a handful of friends who have and they say learning the moves isnt the hard part even though they learn about 3 moves a week and practice on them.. the strength and conditioning plays a bigger factor in there wrestling.
I'd start off with Wrestling, move on to boxing/kickboxing/muay thai, then end with BJJ.. gotta have a complete game.

That 28 year old guy was me. I say go for it. You have 6 years on me and I am just getting started. Think of where you could be by the time you are my age. I did some boxing for about a year until I got in college but that is all of the training I have ever had.

Meaning, I've loved MMA my whole life, I have no prior mma expierience, is 22 just too old to get started?? . I know its a long goal, takes years to get a black belt in ju-jitsu, muay thai , etc.
Lemme know what u guys think, Thanks.
Peace,
Jay | the question you should be asking yourself is "what do I want to accomplish in MMA. If you want to train and learn MMA it's never to late, but if you want to try and become the next Brandon Vera you might be a litte late in the game. |
