| Getting Started in MMA
Hey first post here. ( Not that anyone cares ). I just wanted to know what u guys thought, cause from reading posts i understand some of u already take MMA. My Question is, do u think it is possible to start training MMA at age 22 and still be successful ?? Meaning, I've loved MMA my whole life, I have no prior mma expierience, is 22 just too old to get started?? . I know its a long goal, takes years to get a black belt in ju-jitsu, muay thai , etc.
Lemme know what u guys think, Thanks.
Peace,
Jay

your not to old to compete in MMA after a few years but will you be that good? probably not. Most MMA fighters, and the really good ones, have trained in some kind of martial art since child hood, wrestling, BJJ, Muay thai, boxing, something, so it would be best if you at least mastered one disapline, so you can have at least one advantage. But if you just wanna be a steping stone for really good fighters, go ahead!

I don't think 22 is too old. The guy I train with started a couple years ago and he's 27...and he's really good. Seriously man as long as you dedicate yourself to it and train harder than the guy across the cage/ ring from you, I definitely think you would have a chance.
Oh yeah...also don't forget to choose the right weight class for you to fight in. You really need to find the division you excel in. i.e. Franklin moving from LHW to MW, or Diego moving from MW to WW.

Yeah not to old. I just started training myself and I am 21. I did reach black belt in Tae Kwan Do and Red Belt in Tang Soo Do, so I have a pretty decent stand up, but I just started BJJ and if you dedicate yourself to it, its not that hard to pick up after awhile.

I think it depends a lot on how atletic you are, if you have been into sports since young age then up to 25 is ok IMO. Jameel McCline started boxing at late age of 25, and he held a top10 position for a good while.

Like someone already said, if you're fairly athletic and have been into sports and whatnot since you were a kid, then yeah, it's not too late. If not, then you're probably SOL.

What ever you do, do not listen to this guy. There are fighter's that had never trained in any martial art untill they were already in their late 20's and did very well in MMA.
Bas Rutten is just one example.
It is true that having a background in some form since you were very young is always better but to say that someone will probably not be any good and be just a stepping stone because they are 22!? Come on!
