He has good take down D no where near great.
Stand up, prolly the most overrated stand up in MMA (has edge on Hughes but most do).
Wrestling has got to be very overrated as well. I mean yes he beat Kos but its not like he took him down at will i mean he got him down after Kos took a crappy shot and help him there so wrestling good not anything special.
Thats the reason Gsp is the favorite because he is mediocre at everything but isn't great at anything hes well rounded as Hughes is a great Wrestler. We will see and if Hughes does win i cant wait to hear the excuses that will pour out. |
That is probably the biggest under-estimation of GSP's skills I have ever seen. Yes, it's true that GSP is very well rounded but there is a reason he's torn up the WW division, he may not specialize at anything but he's very good at everything. The fact is he's also made huge improvements in every part of his game. To say his wrestling against Kos was nothing special is crazy talk man, he made Kos look like an absolute Dork (no offense Dork). I mean the guy specializes in wrestling, has an incredibly impressive pedigree, and he couldn't do anything with GSP.
Also I don't think GSP's stand-up is over-rated... His last fight with Hughes, Georges kicked his legs so hard Hughes couldn't even stand anymore (and it was mistaken for a low blow... this is the second time, the first time he actually nutted him but in the post fight conference Hughes admitted that it wasn't a low blow but the nerves in his legs gave out). That's pretty damn impressive if you ask me.
All of that being said I think you need to give GSP more credit than being "mediocre at everything".
Also everybody has to realize that this fight is going to be very different that the other two fights they had. GSP has never looked better and Hughes claims that now that he's out of MFS he's getting the best training of his life. Both guys are going to be coming into this completely game and prepared for war.
I'm going to be interested of GSP tries to wrestle with Hughes like he did with Kos because Hughes is built very differently, I think he'd have a much harder time holding down Matt than he did with Josh... but then again Kos is much more dangerous on the feet than Hughes so it's hard to say what kind of gameplan GSP will come in with. Predictable and stand-up or maybe try something to throw Hughes off...
Hell I don't know I'm just way more stoked for this fight than Hughes/Serra...
