EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw comments on the “long-term” acquisition of former UFC middleweight fighter and contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 4, Scott Smith. Of course, in the quote above Shaw is referring to “Hands of Stone” stopping Pete Sell via knockout in sensational fashion at the TUF 4 Finale in November 2006. Smith was cut from the UFC after a submission loss (rear naked choke) to Ed Herman at UFC 72: “Victory” in June 2007.

he'll do good in elitexc's middle weight division. but I dont think he can beat the top names

ive always liked Scott Smith, and im sure he'll do great in Elite XC...but this just goes to show more and more that Gary Shaw needs to put the crack pipe down.
he claims to be signing "the best fighters in the world" when truly the only 'top ranked' guys he has right now is Jake Shields and Robbie Lawler, who can contend with and beat the best. he's a pretty ignorant dude sometimes LOL

Yea I can't believe he did not take advantage of the Fire Sale that went on when Pride was pretty much disbanded. He would of made his league formidable.

I think this is a good fight for Scott and he'll be able to develop his skills in an environment where fighters aren't as well rounded as they are in the UFC...
He's a young fighter and I hope he gets a chance to showcase those iron clad shots...

I would put Jake Shield against any of the top WW in UFC. I even think Frank Shamrock would have a heyday in the MW division of the UFC with the exception of Silva and maybe Franklin. Don't hate educate!! Sounded kinda Ghetto but who cares.

call me crazy but I doubt shields or faber will be fighting Scott anytime soon, and as far as I can see that's the height of their well roundedness...
WEC is no IFL but it's fighters leave a little to be desired... Like I said I think Scott could have better success there as a middleweight or light heavy...

yes... yes I did....
too much talk about Faber vs Jens in the office has me all messed up on my organizations... for some reason I keep thinking shields is in the WEC...
either way I think "elite" is a better fit for Scott with a better talent pool than the IFL where he can develop his skills...
but if shields ends up in WEC or Faber in Elite... you heard it hear first...
