What happens if GSP loses 2 in a row this quickly?? I he might end up disappearing for awhile??? or work his way back thru the division again??

If that happens I think he is 2 years from another shot, especially the way the UFC promotes the fighters coming out of TUF.

JMHO, what does everyone else think???

if he loses 2 quick or not then Matt Hughes is clearly the better fighter, and GSP gets knocked back to the bottom of the ladder.. but hes getting a 2nd shot before that.. his buddy David Loiseau seems to be at the bottom of the ladder after just one loss.

Matt right now is so at the top of his game, I think GSP should wait longer for the rematch, 2 losses so quickly I think will hurt him. If he loses again he is probably 2 years away from another shot, assuming Matt still has the belt.
Matt is at the top of his game because, what he beat Gracie? Riggs??

Was it his struggle with Trigg???

I wont go back to 2004 to his first fight with GSP or his loss to Penn, but the point is Matt Hughes is predominantly a wrestler & GSP has schooled every wrestler he's fought since his loss to Matt.

GSP is a big WW with awesome submissions & IMO will move up to MW after his fights with Hughes & Penn & give Franklyn a run for his money.

I will gladly admit I don't like Hughes, but I do respect he is a great fighter. I just think GSP is better as is Penn. I also think Parisyan would stand a chance of beating him.

ok i have no idea were everybody is getting this whole giving GSP the advantage in submissions. Hughes was actually top 4 of his division in the ADCC at 98K weight class. The three names ahead of him were Tito, Monson and Arona. GSP performance wasnt as good. That was a pretty bad mistake GSP made, i love using that Kimura bait on ppl that don't know to keep at least half guard when performin it from bottom.

No I didn't, it's in the third paragraph!?!?!?
Edit: (actually, you are right, I just read it & I did not mention that Matt beat GSP, I apologise!)

I did forget to mention that he beat Chat Lavender though, what about his loss to Pele, am I going too far back?

Submissions in a submission wrestling only format and submissions in MMA are two totally different things. I really wish people would quit throwing around ADCC stats when discussing two fighters submission games in the sport of MMA. It's totally not the same thing. It may say who's more skilled at actual submission knowledge, but when punches and elbows are flying around it's a different ballgame completely.

The most important factor about Hughes that has been left out - his will to FIND A WAY to win every fight he's in. Look at the first GSP fight, he couldn't get anything working. On the feet he was losing, GSP had that little duck under takedown that looks so simple when he does it that he's also done to Trigg and Sherk. He was simply being out-classed and blamo a few seconds left in the round and GSP is tapping out. The second Trigg fight, Hughes couldn't have been under worse circumstances and yet he completely reversed the situation, against a really good fighter who was in complete control, and dominated the piss out of him to finish him in the same round.

In a rematch I have to go with GSP. The only way I see him losing is if he makes a mistake and Hughes capitalizes. If it's man versus man and no mistakes are made the better man will win and that person I feel is Georges St. Pierre. How will he win? That's a fucking really tough call to make. I don't know how many rounds this is going or how it's ending, but I see a new Welterweight champion when it's all said and done. UFC is looking at promoting the match in Canada, so they might be expecting similar results.

I love Matt as you can tell from my posts and I think he beats GSP in the rematch, but I think GSP is very very marketable for the UFC and it would be good for the sport and UFC if he does win.

Actually, I don't agree with that. I think GSP blew all of his marketability when he went on his "I love Amercian!" rant after beating BJ Penn at the America vs Canada PPV. He doesn't speak perfect English, which the Vegas crowds seem to look down on. Plus, he isn't your typical bad ass looking fighter. He actually looks pretty innocent, with a lot of punch appeal (Which I'm sure got people killed in high school)

Not that this matters, I just thought I would say that I believe Hughes actually does have more marketability, which is why Dana White is in love with him. Dana, not being the scam everyone thinks he is, won't pull back on making this fight happen despite all of that however.

Also, Big props to Boone, I have to agree with the Submission rant. That former comment is people once again forgetting that any certain style is not going to matter in an MMA fight... It's like people forget these things and go back to day 1 of MMA school.

Problem is Hughes doesn't really have much to say before and after a fight, kinda boring if you ask me. also, I have seen GSP on other sites not related to MMA at all such as t-nation.com. He has a traditional sort of Jean Claude Van Damm look about him which I think people like, and or expect in a Martial Artist.
