Default Belfort confident of UFC return

http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/...5290&zoneid=13

Quote:
Since last fighting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship almost three years ago, Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort has spent time in multiple promotions including Pride, Cage Rage and StrikeForce, but it looks like the Brazilian is hoping for a return to the UFC at some point in the near future.

Belfort recently came on Tagg Radio and confirmed a meeting he had with representatives from Zuffa and while no details were made available he sounded confident with its results and even mentioned who he’d like to fight if he returned to the Octagon.

“We had a meeting it was great,” said Belfort. “Actually what I want, everybody has pride and one thing I have unfinished business with Tito (Ortiz) being the last fight since I won the fight, most people feel I won the fight.”

The last fight between Belfort and Ortiz ended in a split decision win for “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” but the former UFC champion has a new idea for the fight if he and Ortiz meet again.

“Basically what I would like to do is I would like to fight him and I have a challenge for him,” Belfort stated emphatically. “The challenge would be winner take it all.”

Beyond the grudge match brewing with Ortiz, Belfort feels that his return to the UFC is necessary because of his long standing ties with the promotion and that the fighters there now are treading on his territory.

“The UFC’s my house,” Belfort said. “See a lot of guys there, they are at my house. The UFC’s my house, they come into my land. Even Tito, he came after, he came to my house.”

Fans have long clamored for Vitor Belfort’s return, but not the fighter who has struggled in many of his recent fights, they have long been begging for the warrior who blew through competition like Wanderlei Silva and Tank Abbot a few years ago.

“I know the fans want the old Vitor back,” stated Belfort. “I took care of my issues, took care of my problems so now I’m clean and ready to get back into the UFC.”

Belfort confirmed that he is no longer training at Black House in Brazil and now works only with a team of coaches and selective training partners.

Ultimately, Belfort understands the challenge in front of him, but he knows that to face the best fighters in the world he needs to be in the UFC.

“I want to fight with the best so you have to be around the best,” said Belfort.

To listen to the whole interview go to www.taggradio.com

I don't get why he would leave Black House to work with "the best in the world." considering Black House is one of the best in the world.

Vitor needs to make sure that the NSAC will give him a license again before being too confident about getting back into the UFC.

He left Blackhouse? Why? Not off to a good start Vitor....

I hope he does get signed with the UFC... but I hope he sticks with moving down to MW.. it would be so good for the division..

if he beats Tito now, what is that really going to prove?

Uh, someone needs to tell Vitor that the UFC hasn't been his house for quite a while and he may want to hold off on his plans of moving in any time soon. A lot of things would need to happen.

And, not sure what to make of the whole "now I'm clean" thing. Hmmmm.

Im ready to see him back for sure. Give the guy a shot and see what kind of impact he makes. I wonder if Tito would accept this fight with open arms. Tito lately seems the type to be real gun shy on accepting certain fights.

The terms Vitor laid out are absolutely retarded--I mean, has there ever been a fight like that?

And, I'm not so sure it would be a smart fight to take anyway for Ortiz. Where is Vitor in the LHW rankings? Of course, against a fighter like Belfort, there's always the chance of losing. What would Ortiz gain with a win over Belfort now? I would think if he only has a few years left in the sport and a limited number of fights, Ortiz would be gunning for more lucrative purses/lucrative opponents.

And, I thought Jordan pushed off on the game-winning jumper in the Finals against the Jazz. The outcome was the same--a win is a win.

True, i mean i wouldnt want to fight at the chance of not getting paid if i lose. Then again if Tito just wants to be a hard ass and show that he feels he is better then he would just take the fight. Its not like he's not already a millionaire already anyways lol.

Anyways i think if they bring Vitor over they will try to make this fight happen but I doubt it will be for winner takes all.

And IMO Vitor will come back strong, I mean he hasn't lost to anyone that is a bad fighter. Dan Henderson? Alistar Overeem?

And IMO he DID beat Tito in his last UFC fight.

I imagine he is also talking about the steroid situation

And yes, he has only lost to names since his falling out.. Sakuraba (which was nothing but a bad performance... I think he would beat Sakuraba), Overeem, Liddell, Couture, Hendo...

No one to be ashamed of... He will come back strong

And IMO (also), he DID beat Tito

But, don't you think a fight between Ortiz and, say, Shogun would make more sense to get a clearer picture of the LHW division/heirarchy?
