| Tim Kennedy out of IFL Grand Prix Finals? http://mmajunkie.com/ Quote:
Tim Kennedy, who lost a unanimous decision to Jason Miller in an entertaining “HDNet Fights: Reckless Abandon” main event on Saturday, may have to pull out of the International Fight League’s Dec. 29 Grand Prix Finals.
The guys at TAGG Radio will speak to Kennedy today about the upcoming IFL event and his status. Miller will also be a guest on the show to discuss Saturday’s HDNet Fights event.
Kennedy, an IFL fighter, was granted special permission from the league’s executives to compete at Saturday’s HDNet Fights event at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Sean Salmon had to pull out of the bout due to a medical suspension, so HDNet Fights executives booked Kennedy instead. The Army Special Forces soldier held a previous victory over Miller: at an Extreme Challenge eight-man tournament back in 2003.
On Saturday Miller scored a unanimous decision in their second meeting, but Kennedy was anything but a pushover. In fact, he had Miller in trouble on a number of occasions, nearly ending the fight in the first and second rounds with rear-naked chokes.
IFL executives planned for Kennedy (8-2) to return at the IFL Grand Prix Finals on Dec. 29 — just two weeks after the HDNet Fights event — to take on Elias Rivera (3-2). Although Kennedy suffered no apparent serious injuries during the event, the 15-minute fight could have resulted in a precautionary medical suspension that stretched into the new year.
Regardless, the answers will come soon. TAGG Radio, a free MMA show co-hosted by Frank Trigg, can be heard on taggradio.com beginning at 12 p.m. ET today.
