The Ultimate TUF Souvenir - The Octagon Necklace - is now on sale
Sometimes it’s the simplest things that make the biggest impression.

Take the UFC Octagon necklace (now on sale in the UFC shop for immediate shipping). Originally used to help with production of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, it has instead turned into the must have item of the Holiday season for fight fans; this, after being one of the most requested items in the history of the organization.

Needless to say, Andrea Richter, Co-Executive Producer of The Ultimate Fighter, didn’t see this coming.

“I would have never guessed in a million years that this would happen,” she laughed.

Having worked on a number of reality shows, Ms Richter had a pretty good idea of what worked and what didn’t in that realm of television, and the easiest way to speed things up when it came to miking the fighters on the show was to give them leather straps with circular metal washers that hid their microphones.

“It’s a trick of the trade on reality shows,” she said. “It’s easier for them to put it on instead of us miking them up every day and every time they change clothes.”

By season three though, the circular metal necklaces turned into Octagons, and at the end of each subsequent season, everybody wanted to take theirs home.

“Every season they want to take them,” said Ms Richter.

But no one got them, so even though fans requested the keepsakes and scoured EBay for them, they were not leaving the production truck since each had to be dismantled to remove the embedded microphone.

“We have to take them apart to take the microphones off,” she said. “The microphone is hidden right where the leather strap attaches to the Octagon.”

But in early December, the UFC answered fight fans’ (and maybe even some TUF alumni’s) prayers by putting the UFC Octagon necklace on sale. It’s a replica of the same pendant worn by fighters on The Ultimate Fighter show and a great stocking stuffer for any UFC fan on your Christmas list.

Sodium, with all due respect...I wouldn't wear it, regardless of who gave it to me. Even though I think the show has gone steadily downhill since the first season, I think it's something that needs to be earned, not bought, and anyone wearing it is a wannabe.

I think it's kind of like that other crap reality show Survivor, where they started selling the "Survivor bandanna" or something...

if you weren't on the show, why would you wear it?


But maybe your woman is so astoundingly hot that you'd just wear anything she gives you...I could understand that as well.
