Default Hughes and GSP's training camps

Spike is running the Countdown to UFC 79 right now. I know it has been discussed, but I still felt the need to comment.

I am a big believer of not only styles making the difference in fights, but camps playing a large role.

From what I have seen, heard, and read I give a large advantage to GSP. He has been training with Jackson's camp. He is training at 5 different centers in Montreal. His camp supposedly included, Rashad Evans, Denis Kang, Patrick Cote, Jonathan Goulet, David Loiseau, David Pariseau, Jacob MacDonald, Steve Claveau and more.

He is training with a boxing champion, and has MT trainers, BJJ trainers, as well as boxing and strength and conditioning trainers. He is also training with the Canadian National Wrestling team.

Matt Hughes left MFS, and seems to be training in a basketball court with a bunch of his wrestling buddies.

Is it just me? Or does it seem like Matt Hughes is setting himself up for failure.

I don't really care for hughes. With that out of the way not necessarily, part of the fighting game to is the mental game if hughes feels that getting people he trust closely away from the hassles of everything else, and training and getting back to basics and just enjoying himself and everything along up to the fight it might be better for him than staying at mfs for example.

Yes, but if you are the biggest or best fighter at your gym, how will you really be pushed to improve?

Also, If Matt is training almost exclusively wrestling, he had better hope it pays off and that he can take down GSP and control him.

I'm pretty sure there are a couple people there who helped him hone his skill and are cable of pushing him. On top of that even if there wasn't one single person there who could get him motivated all hughes would have to do is look back to there last fight. I know if someone tko'ed/stopped me in our last fight it would light a fire under me.

Why should Hughes train in anything other then wrestling an gnp for this fight. He shouldn't even bother with stand up, he can't win.

Stick to what he does best an what got him here an that wrestling. He needs to train harder then ever to make sure he can get the take down. His cardio needs to be 100x better then ever before so when gsp stuffs his take downs he can just continue to drive an keep trying an trying.

Hughes key to this fight is wrestling.

I agree Dork but I don't see Hughes being able to do anything as far as wrestling goes that GSP hasn't seen from Rashad and the Canadian Nat'l Wrestling team. I think Hughes is in the unfortunate situation where he's fighting a guy that just has his number. I'm looking forward to seeing Hughes getting the shit kicked out of him.

I´m getting so annoyed by both of them that i´m just happy that someone is going to loose, hopefully by bloody stoppage. I really liked GSP earlier but all his comments sound like he´s just saying what people want to hear, not what he´s really thinking. And are they going to talk about how he wasn´t mentally ready for the first Hughes fight for ever, it was 3 years ago, get over it already.
Serra is the ww champ and he owned GSP so how are they talking about two best welterweights fighting..
And since i already started whining i might as well say that Dana and Rogan where really fucking annoying and the whole countdown show sucked.

How come everyone assumes Rashad's wrestling is on a par with Hughes'. Granted, the Canadian Nat'l team should provide the necessary challenge, but Rashad has never looked overly impressive as a "wrestler".

Serra is not the champ. He could not defend his title and it was stripped. By that logic, Frank Mir should still be the champ. And a lucky KO does not mean "owned".

Just because a guy holds the title with only one fight at the weight class does not mean that he is the best.

Serra wasn´t stripped, he´s still the champion. Hughes and GSP fight for the interim title, witch doesn´t count for shit as far i´m concerned.
And outstriking your opponent and setting him up for a ko punch while he can only land a couple of jabs doesn´t mean "a lucky KO".
I don´t know if Serra is the best, we´ll have to wait and see. But it´s quite arrogant for GSP to claim that the winner of him vs Hughes is the best ww in the world when Serra kicked his ass. And since his striking has only looked so great against hughes, whos stand up really sucks, i wouldn´t be surprised if Serra KOd him again.

well obviously he needs to work on his striking or he'll get domolished.... he needs to work on striking D for sure and second he needs to work on strikes to set up the takedown

hughes could easily throw off gsp with improved striking... almost similar to hamill throwing off bisping... although gsp and hughes are on much different levels than hamill and bisping
