| Who says UFC is bigger than Boxing?
Hey guys, my 2nd post here and Im not trying to tick nebody off but I hear alot of guys saying UFC is bigger than Boxing and this and that but who did you hear that from? Though I think that UFC and MMA in general SHOULD BE bigger than boxing it CLEARLY isn't.
According to MMANEWS.COM reports in the last UFC the total salary paid was approximatley 400 K and they grossed in 3-4 million at the gates. Well, hate to break it to you but Oscar Dela Hoya alone got paid somewhere in the double digit millions for his fight against Mayorga and the gate itself made definitley more than 4 million. So, yes the popularity of UFC is growing rapidly, and it DESERVES to be bigger than boxing, but where are the numbers proving that it is bigger?
Shoot, even Carlos Baldomir, a new and up and coming welterweight champ is making millions per fight when an amazingly talented guy like Hughes or Franklin only gets about 200 grand a fight. Sucks.....

Actually I just checked and Dela Hoya made 8 million for the Mayorga fight alone. That's pretty huge advantage, that can pay the fighters for the next 10 UFC events!

Exactly, I think UFC deserves to be just a big as boxing and Chuck and Hughes deserve pay days just like Mayweather and Dela Hoya. But, money=marketability and boxing has way more of it.
BECAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR! The day UFC guys start making bank they will sell out just like the boxing guys and have only about 1 fight a year. The best era of boxing was right where UFC is today, in a time of good money but not amazing money. Once UFC gets to that point, I think the guys will start selling out just like boxing.

Yes boxing has more money but mma will catch up and you are probably right about guys hardly fighting then, that's a good point, but the promotions can make it so that they have to defend the titles in a certain amount of time like boxing or they get stripped so it could work out but that was a good point still.

" The heavyweight title bout between Oleg Maskaev and Hasim Rahman two weeks ago got just 60,000 pay-per-view buys. Tonight's Ultimate Fighting Championship show, headlined by Chuck Liddell vs. Renato Sobral, will likely generate more than 500,000 buys. You see where we're going? "
From here: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/b...rts-columnists
Tough to argue with numbers like that, it's lopsided. Would be different if it was 60,000 buys vs. 90,000 That we could argue. But, more 8 TIMES the views?
