I wish I could agree, however most sports (including MMA) sell tickets based on names prior to performance. I think there can be a happy medium between incentives and signing bonuses that's mutually beneficial. Think about the number of UFC PPV buys Brock Lesnar will create just based on name. Perform or not, the UFC will make an insane amount of money just because Brock is fighting. Shouldn't he get a piece of that because it's his name they're selling? Perform or not, he's the draw. Just an opinion from a fighter's point of view.

I don't see it as "Randy screwing over fighters" but come on, you had to see this coming. It only takes one to ruin it for many. And I don't think the UFC is punishing fighters or trying to make them "mad at Randy" I just think they are taking all gray area out of things.

Now, this is something I have long felt and still do. The UFC has every right (barring some strange wording in contract) to go after Randy for a portion of that signing bonus, and it looks like they are still trying to mend the bridge by not doing it.

The Dolphins went after Ricky Williams. Barry Sanders had to pay back a chunk of his signing bonus, and now look at what Rich Rodriguez is going through at West Virginia. In most companies things like that aren't a "gift", they are dependent on you honoring and finishing the term of your contract.

Christ why is Randy the bad guy here? Fighters have been complaining for years about this kind of stuff and now I'm hearing a lot of defense for Dana! Fedor is a dick for not accepting a shitty UFC contract, Randy is fucking over fighters, Josh Barnett is overrated, Frank Shamrock is a douche, ect.

Randy isn't the villain. Unfortunately he is pretty much the whistle-blower.

Liken it to someone complaining about their X-mas bonus they get. Those are usually "off the books" or at least something extra not negotiated at the time of hire, and are used as a show of gratitude. Unfortunately it only takes one person to say "it's not fair" and the whole thing to fall under scrutiny and be discontinued. Sadly, that is what we seem to be seeing here.

The thread title is kinda unfair. Randy would never have intended or wished to fluck over other fighters. It's an unforeseeable consequence of the legal battle between him alone and UFC. As far as Zuffa contracts, the fighters will still get paid, just not in that fashion anymore. Possibly larger performance bonuses. It might be for the best in the end.
