2 Liddell- He couldn't land cleanly on Keith Jardine, how do you expect him to land on Machida's impreccable defense? Machida would pick him apart.
3 Wanderlei- Would try to attack but Machida would be gone by the time Wand got there, and Wand would eventually be TKO'd (Wand is no way #3 btw).
4 Jardine- If you think Jardine would beat Machida you've got to learn more about MMA. Jardine isn't even in the league as Machida.
5 Forrest- Actually has a better chance than most because of his style. He's a huge LHW, and if he fights w/ a smart gameplan he may be able to beat Machida but i'd take Machida.
6 Shogun- One of the best matchups possible at LHW, but Shogun leaves himself open when attacking & Machida is the master is taking advantage of openings.
7 Ortiz- Tito will not be able to get close enough to Machida to take him down... Machida will land a punch or 2 and then be gone before Tito even considered going for the takedown.
8 Thiago- This is one of my favorite fighters, and I believe i'm the captain of his bandwagon but I don't think he'd beat Machida at this point. Maybe in a year or so, but Thiago has to beat another top level guy.
9 Arona- You had him ahead of Sokoudjou even though Sokou KO'd him in under 2 min? But anyway Arona's standup is less than stellar, and he'd be leadfooted against Machida.
Machida is undefeated & hasn't EVEN LOST A ROUND. He's made Sokoudjou, Bonnar, Nakamura, Franklin, and everybody else he's foughten look bush league. I'm not a Machida fan, but I have in the Top 4 at least at LHW. |
let me first say i wasnt a fan of Machida, but now he earned my respect and i have him in my top 10(who has he beat to be in your top 5??? exept soko, hoger??? lol), that said im going to have to take a minute and laugh at what you said Machida would to to Wandy and Chuck, pick chuck apart and TKO Wandy??? lolollll those guys would murder him, i see him getting KO'd by both of em, .... and ya i have arona ahead of Sukodju, Houston Alexander KO'd Jardine in less than 1 min, should i put him in my top 5????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???? should i out Jardine over Liddel cuz he won the split???..... anyways i think in a rematch that Arona would have a better gameplan and submit Suko

Chuck is 38 years old, and just teed off on a past his prime Wanderlei who was standing right in front of him. Machida has the best strike defense in MMA, and if those guys can't hit him, how are they going to KO him? Bonnar said it best about Machida, fighting him is like fighting a ghost. Houston Alexander didn't KO Lil Nogs & Arona so I don't know why you brought him up lol.
Arona had the right gameplan against Soko btw, he was going for the takedown, but never even came close & Soko rocked him with a hammerfist & then KO'd him. The reason Soko got sub'd by Machida is because Soko was losing on the feet, so HE took the fight to the ground... fucked either way he goes.

I am saying that the only ranked 205er he has fought has NO ground game. name some good fighters he has beat. look at my list and you can argue that machida is not in line for a title shot. he hasn't fought any of the top ufc lhws..besides sokoudjou. The rest of the lhws have been put through the ringer. He is good but lhw title shot..no way.
here's machida's resume of fights.....
12/29/2007 Win Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou UFC 79: Nemesis Submission (Arm Triangle Choke) 2 4:18
9/22/2007 Win Kazuhiro Nakamura UFC 76: Knockout Decision (Unanimous) 3 5:00
4/21/2007 Win David Heath UFC 70: Nations Collide Decision (Unanimous) 3 5:00
02/03/2007 Win Sam Hoger UFC 67: All or Nothing Decision (Unanimous) 3 5:00 Ultimate Fighting Championship Debut
07/22/2006 Win Vernon White WFA: King of the Streets Decision (Unanimous) 3 5:00
04/29/2006 Win Dimitri Wanderley JF 6-Jungle Fight 6 TKO (Punch) 3 ?
03/26/2005 Win B.J. Penn K-1-Hero's 1 Decision (Unanimous) 3 5:00
05/22/2004 Win Sam Greco K-1 MMA-ROMANEX Decision (Split) 3 5:00
03/14/2004 Win Michael McDonald K-1-Beast 2004 Submission (Forearm Choke) 1 2:30
12/31/2003 Win Rich Franklin Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye 2003-Inoki Festival TKO (Strikes) 2 1:03
9/13/2003 Win Stephan Bonnar JF 1-Jungle Fight 1 TKO (Cut) 1 4:21
5/2/2003 Win Kengo Watanabe NJPW-Ultimate Crush Decision (Unanimous) 3 5:00 Professional Mixed Martial Arts Debut
now how many of these fighters have a winning record at 205. franklin...one fight and lost..bj penn....that's a laugh at anywhere near 205, vernon "tiger wells" i think his record is just above 500, bonnar? not even a contendor, heath...useless,hogar..needs years more experience...let's be honest...of course he looks good against these guys!
Machida is better than these guys YES. but let's see him against top tier fighters.

Machida made those guys look bush league because at 205 those guys are bush league! That' a nice list you have tehere and "fortune cookie results" you have made up but in no way is macida gonna walk through the lsit you made up. He is hveing fun fighting guys that have no real threat to him.
keep in mind..this is my opinion. it's how i feel and i feel i am right.

No more needs to be said lol.
I said after the Machida v Sokou fight, that Jardine v Thiago should happen immediately & then have the winner fight Machida. The winner of Thiago Silva v Lyoto Machida (i'm assuming) would deserve a title shot. If Lyoto were to win that he'd a beaten Nakamura, Sokoudjou, and Thiago Silva... a much better run than any LHW contender.

Machida is better than these guys YES. but let's see him against top tier fighters. | OK, I actually understand your logic a little better now, though I still thoroughly disagree with you -- which is fine, thats what these forums are for.
But...ground game wise, Machida trains with some top Brazilians, and I think he just got his blackbelt, so thats no joke. And I think some of the guys on the list have a better ground game than you give credit for, including Soku and Nakumara to an extent (Judo champions) and definitely Bonnar (a blackbelt under Carlson Gracie).
If Machida were to stop, or even just beat convincingly a guy like say ..... Shogun, THEN would you be a believer???
