| Tim Sylvia: "Brock Lesnar is a baby." Quote:
Tim Sylvia spoke recently with Steve Cofield of ESPN radio and had some interesting things to say about his former training partner, Brock Lesnar, including a prediction in his upcoming fight with Frank Mir at UFC 81.
"I don’t think he’s gonna have a future in mma," said Sylvia. "I think Frank Mir’s gonna beat him.
"I’ve trained with Brock. I think Frank Mir’s gonna submit him. He’s a baby. Don’t kick him because he’ll get hurt. He’s a hell of a wrestler man, the guy can wrestle and he’s strong, but he can’t punch and he can’t get kicked. And he don’t know how to kick. He can only go straight forward. I think Mir will submit him."
Sylvia also believes that the UFC may be putting Lesnar in against Frank Mir in order to set up a future battle between himself and Mir.
"I think Mir has what it takes to submit him," continued Sylvia. "They could be lining this up between Frank Mir and myself down the road. They tried to [set up the] fight when I was supposed to fight Randy, but the Nevada State Athletic Commission would not sanction it. They thought I was too good for him. If he wins this fight I don’t think they could say he’s not good enough to fight me anymore."
Brock Lesnar is a very highly decorated collegiate wrestler. He was a four-time all-American, two-time big-ten Champion and the 2000 NCAA heavyweight champion. He finished his four year collegiate career with an outstanding record of 106-5.
Lesnar also enjoyed a very successful run in WWE before trying his hand at the NFL where he played some pre-season games for the Minnesota Vikings. He was later cut and declined an invitation to play in NFL Europe, instead deciding to go back to Pro Wrestling in Japan for a brief stint before finally settling on a career in MMA.
He has since dedicated himself to the sport, training with UFC Legend Royce Gracie and at Minnesota Martial Arts Best Academy of Minnesota with Sean Sherk, Nick Thompson, and Brock Larson.
He will face Mir at UFC 81 on February 2 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

well this is a tricky fight for him. hes fighting a guy whos good at submitting people from his back, and is much better at bjj. tough first fight imo. but this is really the tell all about lesnar. if he can beat mir he might have a legit shot in the ufc.

| Sylvia is a joke
It was quite awhile ago that they trained together and Lesnar has had a lot more time to train since then. Sylvia criticizing someone for having weaknesses in their game is a joke. I am so sick of everyone jumping on Brock all the time. Give him time. Just because he was a celebrity in Pro Wrestling does not mean he's a side show. He has so much talent and potential and if he was coming right out of college into this without the WWE then no one would doubt his chances. And seriously Sylvia is ridiculous. The most overrated and under performing champ ever. I can't wait for Nog to destroy him.

lol...Tiny Tim thinks highly of himself huh...and he wonders why everyone cant stand him. If he had a skill set other than hiding behind his 12ft jab, he would have some room to talk of others lacking tools in their game. Im afraid hes gonna jab his way to another title. I hope Nog is able to put him down...Nog has GREAT boxing, but Tims reach is no joke...

Why would the NSAC think Mir , who broke Tim's arm nearly off at UFC 48 (in 50 seconds), would not be "good enough" to fight Tim again? I think Tim is seriously repressing the memory, or else his comment confirms what we all knew all along; Tim is a giant douche.

It wasn't his choice and that is the reason they gave. You qweers are just jealous of tim.

Can't blame Tim for telling it like it is. On one hand, there is Lesnar who has proven absolutely nothing in the sport and only has a name because of WWE. On the other hand, Timmy who is a former 2 time UFC champion, a proven veteran of the Octagon with wins over some great fighters and nice collection of highlight reel KO's. But yeah, Tim is jealous of Brock's mma skills. Right on.

The most overrated and under performing champ ever. I can't wait for Nog to destroy him. | Brock made himself a sideshow when he chose the WWE instead of an actual sport. While Tim was working to put MMA on the map, Lesnar was wearing makeup and studying scripts. Whether you like his style or not, it's effective enough to win the HW title twice: Tim is legitimate; while currently, Brock has squandered any legitimacy he earned in college.
Lesnar's physicality gives him potential, but he's really done nothing to earn his big paycheck. If he was coming in with a contract offered to any other fighter with only one fight under his belt, fine. But he didn't, and if he's getting even a fraction of what Sylvia's contract gives him, that's unfortunate.
And I agree that a post-accident Mir vs. Tim would have been a mismatch. It wouldn't be a pretty fight, but it would have been one-sided--MMA Math being what it is, I think his fight with Vera tells that story pretty clearly. Frank has done a lot to rehab since then, and time will tell.

just because brock was a pro wrestler doesnt mean he wont cut it in mma.
have any of you guys seen some of the feats of strength that brock has performed over the years????
i hope he annihilates mir then gets the chance to shut sylvia up, tim will never have met anyone in the octagon with anywhere near the power that lesnar posesses.
give it a couple of years and people will be screaming from the rooftops to see Brock vs Fedor and this time Dana will deliver because he has got the future of the sport tied down to UFC.
