| “The Celebrity Apprentice,” Tito Ortiz Debut Thursday Night on NBC Quote:
“The Celebrity Apprentice,” a special version of Donald Trump’s reality game show, debuts Thursday night on NBC, and UFC fighter Tito Ortiz is one of 14 celebrity contestants appearing on the series.
The debut, which kicks off the sixth installment of the reality series, airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
The contestants, who lived in New York City for filming of the show, compete in various business challenges each week on the show. However, rather than vying for a job with Trump as past contestants did, the celebrities compete for charity. More than $1 million will be awarded to various nonprofit organizations throughout the show’s three-month run.
Ortiz’s winnings go to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Although Ortiz, a former UFC champion, is one of the MMA’s most decorated fighters, he also prides himself as a shrewd businessman. He started the clothing line Punishment Athletics with just $500 and has turned it into a multi-million dollar company in a matter of a couple years. He’s also dabbled in acting and professional/performance wrestling, and he has an autobiography set to hit bookstores in May.
In addition to Ortiz, other contestants on “The Celebrity Apprentice” include Trace Adkins (country-music star), Carol Alt (actress/model), Stephen Baldwin (actor from “The Usual Suspects”), Nadia Comaneci (Olympic gymnastics gold medalist), Tiffany Fallon (2005 “Playboy” Playmate of the Year), Jennie Finch (Olympic softball gold medalist), Nely Galan (TV producer and Telemundo executive), Marilu Henner (actress from “Taxi”), Lennox Lewis (world heavyweight boxing champion), Piers Morgan (“America’s Got Talent” judge), Omarosa (former cast member on “The Apprentice”), Vincent Pastore (“Big Pussy” from “The Sopranos”) and Gene Simmons (KISS front man, reality-show star).
“The Apprentice” has traditionally been one of NBC’s top-rated programs, but the show has experienced a consistent decline in ratings since its debut in January 2005.
Ortiz, a 10-year veteran of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and a former light heavyweight champion, was expected to headline November’s UFC 78 event in Newark, N.J. However, he pulled out of the event citing an injury, and Michael Bisping was booked in his place.
Neither the UFC nor Ortiz has mentioned when the 32-year-old fighter might next compete for the organization.

good for Tito, why risk your place on the show by beating the crap outta Lennox Lewis.
