Statistically 2-1 sounds good but look at the fights. The Mir one was just weird, he was sloppy and uneffective in the Monson fight, and I don't even remember who he fought in his first fight so it probably doesn't mean much either.
He's got the ground no doubt, but he hasn't shown the ability to even get a guy like Sylvia or Arlovski down and keep them down to where he needs them to even have a chance.

when uve only had three mma fights and are jumping right in fighting a guy like monson in your third fight and beating mir who people still think is a top guy thats a pretty damn good start to me. he kept monson at bay with his jab and while hes still sloppy on the feet what do you expect. give him 6 months to a year and he will be a top guy in the ufc.

no doubt cruz needs some improving ,but i see lots of potential in him just not yet.his standup is bad and i'm not completely sold on his ability to take some one down.i don't see him taking down sylvia or aa they're too big and powerful.

monson is gonna be harder to take down then AA, sylvia being hes as big as he is is always gonna be hard to take down. but aa can be taken down by cruz no doupt. i think he would have much more trouble with monson then with aa i think in 6 months he easily beats AA.

I can't see Rizzo beating either of them today. | The main reason it was put together was because Tito was bailing out of the fight with Shamrock which made Dana scramble to find a replacement for the Main Event. Then after AA/Sylvia was confirmed and everyone bitched out Tito, Tito decided to take the fight.

I'm sure you all saw the Silva / Sylvia match from a little bit ago.... It's matches like that that make me doubt Tim Sylvia. It seems like people who just aren't intimidated by his stature can hang with him as long as they don't do anything dumb (like throw 50 consecutive crazy overhand punches before getting knocked out *cough* Arlovski *cough*)
Also in that fight, which was a close fight, there was a point where Silva went to take the big fella down, and Sylvia grabbed the cage so he wouldn't get tossed... I think if that fight goes to the ground it's a completely different story... And that was to go along with the "silva seems like a guy who never gets a break" line from a few posts ago..

thats always been the thing about sylvia. hes huge and thats whats kept him in the game. hes got power and hes huge and so with those two things you always have a punchers chance. just look his last fight. gan mcgee would never have gotten as far as he has if he wasnt 6'10". so just like in other sports size makes up for a lack of talent in a lot of cases. if sylvia gets on his back hes in trouble. look at the heel hook AA but on him in the first fight.

"but aa can be taken down by cruz no doupt. i think he would have much more trouble with monson then with aa"
Maybe if it was a contest where Arlovski promised not to do anything but defend the takedown, then maybe Cruz could get it. Otherwise, Cruz will need a lot better striking skills, or Arlovski is going to obviously know to sprawl and brawl. And when all you have to worry about is sprawling (and you're actually capable of a good sprawl) and kickboxing, it's not as hard to defend takedowns. Look at Alessio/Sanchez, CroCop/Coleman, etc. there's a billion examples of that. So I really highly doubt Cruz gets Arlovski down if they fought, and I think it's actually completely incorrect not just my opinion, but almost officially wrong to say he'd get him down easy.
