You think he'll win a rematch with Hughes next year??
Because he did request it not that long ago.

while his battle with Sakuraba was a real show of Royce's durability, and going with Yoshida was a battle. but thats fighting guys that cant strike particularly well. those fights took most of the time on the ground, where Royce can fight for hours without getting caught.
but as Matt Hughes proved, top competition in any large organization wouldnt come trying to tap Royce. they would use better standup and wrestling, beat on him standing and stuff his shots.
i believe in a modern MMA competition against outstanding fighters, Royce just doesnt have the tools to beat top level fighters, in style and physical ability
royce was an example of BJJ's capability in combat during the earlier UFCs, tapping guys left and right, an accomplished BJJ master without a super-athletic physique

| Royce's mistake
Royce tried to out-grapple hughes on the feet when they tied up. That was his mistake. He ended up on the ground with hughes on top in side control and that was the beginning of the end for ol' Royce. What he should have done is wrap around hughes like an anaconda, pullling hughes into his guard. At least from his guard he has a fighting chance and the opportunity to work some submissions from there. But he ended up with hughes on top of him in side control and that's all hughes needed to begin his domination of the fight.

Because he did request it not that long ago. | In their fight i was really cheering for Royce. He was dominated, but also I think he took this fight a little lightly. I think he really believed that he could walk in and just submit him no problem, just because his name was Gracie. I think it's possible he didn't train with the right kind of fighters. Right now he is training "Brock Lesner for a K1 match. Now as much as it looks like Gracie is training Lesner, it is also Brock Lesner training Gracie for a rematch with Matt Hughes. Now this is what I'm thinking, Gracie needs to learn to deal with the explosive strength and great wrestling ability of Matt Hughes. He needs to know how to work around Hughes and get a submission without being dominated. With Lesner he has ,more power, great wrestling and much, much more size to work with. If Gracie can defend against an ground onslaught from a man the size and skill of Lesner, then Matt Hughes vs Gracie 2 might be a totally different fight.
Gracie, RD 1, Submission

OK...
Can someone respond to this... Why is GRACIE over the hill and not quality top fighter because he went 4.5 minutes with the best WW int he ufc BUT when HUGHES gets dominated by PENN people didnt say hues cant hang?
Or how about the silva crocop fight??? People have bad nights and all the SHERDOG types need to STFU and get back to reading books about people who read books...
Royce should get much respect for being his age and giving hughes some trouble.. And i thought Royce looked the sharpest he has ever looked.. But i think his mistake is that he thought hughes was scared of his ground game and wouldnt take him down.. It looked liek he spent most his time training his stand up...
THATS WHY i think hes still in top form and proved hes working to round out his style.. He may train hard in boxing/Thai and gave some quality victories to end out his career UNLIKE shamsock...
