If Chuck takes this fight then it's a harder road for the title. It's about time Machida started calling out names to fight. All I've heard all year is how hard it is for Joe Silva to find opponents for him. He's got wins over big names and it's time he fought the biggest name in the UFC. Regardless Chuck won't take this fight.

With the way Chuck looked against Wand, you guys are acting like this one's in the book. C'mon. Chuck via 2nd rd KO because Machida can't take him down or deal with the reach and power. Fuck Soko, he was overated to begin with.

Hope this doesnt happen. Machida already uses a pretty boring style, that along with Chucks counter punching style would basically make for 15 minutes of Lyoto shooting,Chuck sprawling, then both men pawing back and forth waiting for the other to commit to an attack.
If it does happen though,I give the edge to Chuck.I dont think Lyoto could get him down since his takedown d is outta this world, and I highly doubt Lyoto would be able to match up or withstand the power of Chucks punches.

Machida's resume, as impressive is it is, doesn't match up with Chuck's at all, not to mention Chuck held the LHW belt for years decaptitating kids. I'll take Chuck all day, twice on Sundays. You guys are nuts giving this to Machida already.

I think you are mistaken. He usually stands first with his opponents and then maneuvers his game plan to fit what's happening. Chuck's "countering style"- as you call it- would end with the same result the Jardine fight did: Machida picking him apart from the outside with leg strikes and straight punches, AND also he would destroy Liddell on the ground.

People make it sound as if he had some kind of legendary run. Ortiz had five successful title defenses in two years. Wanderlei was champ for about six years. If Anderson Silva beats Dan Henderson that'll make him 4-0 as champ in less than two years.

i think this forum has one giant hard on for Brazilians, seriously LOL! come on, saying Machida is a bad match up for Chuck and blah blah blah...even after a very decisive win over Wandy, Chuck is still getting hated on. if a Chuck/Machida fight were to happen, the only one who could have the term "counter-puncher" used against him is Machida. if you all recall, Chuck was doing most of the stalking in the fight with Wandy. walking him down, getting him up against the fence, and landing bombs! that is not very characteristic of a counter-fighter. i think with his superior TDD, Chuck would frustrate Machida, then own him bad! Chuck via TKO
besides i feel Machida should be fighting Jardine for #1 contender...poor Jardine is getting the shaft big time right now!!!

Lets not let a fighters popularity blind us from the facts | Chuck had a 10 fight win streak lasting 4 years (8 of the 10 fights being in the UFC or PRIDE), lost to Randy/Rampage (with a win over Overeem in between), then ripped off a 7 fight win streak. Having two win streaks like that at the top of the top organizations is pretty legendary I would say.
Also a fun fact: Wanderlei only had 4 successful defenses of the PRIDE belt. Chuck had 4 successful defenses of the UFC belt.
