| Melvin Guillard: I’m Temporarily Leaving the UFC UFC News & Rumors - MMA News - UFC Fighters - UFC Event Recaps and Previews - MMAjunkie.com Quote:
UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard (20-7-2 MMA, 3-3 UFC), who was submitted by arch enemy Rich Clementi last month at a UFC 79 event in Las Vegas, will be leaving the UFC to gain some experience in smaller fighter promotions before returning to the octagon.
Guillard confirmed the plans — in his trademark way (with foul language, death threats, and a denial that he’s ever really been defeated) — during a recent interview with the baltimoresun.com.
With back-to-back losses and a recently served eight-month suspension for a failed April 2007 drug test (cocaine), Guillard said he’ll compete in some smaller, non-televised events — but not at his usual fighting weight — before he returns to the UFC. He hopes that return will happen this spring.
“I’m not going to take any fights at 155 [pounds] outside the UFC,” Guillard told the baltimoresun.com. “I want to fight at 170 [pounds] — a weight class above mine outside the UFC. I’m probably scheduled to fight again in the UFC late March, early April if they bless me with that.
“I gotta be careful who I fight for and who I fight. It’s not one of those things where I can just go fight any show or fight anybody. I gotta be real careful how I pick the fights. It’s like taking a gamble because if [I] do that, I have to win. I have to win these fights. If I gotta fight two weight classes up — to fight 185- [pounders] — I’ll do that to protect what I have in the UFC. I’ll fight a 185-pound guy if I have to. It’s not one of those things where I can just go jump and say, “Here, I’m going to take this fight or that fight like I used to.” If something goes wrong — God forbid something goes wrong — and the UFC’s not happy, they can… put me on a break for a long time from the UFC and I can’t live with that.“
Guillard later explained that he feels he can preserve his status and ranking in the UFC’s 155-pound division even if he loses at a different weight class outside the organization. As he stated, he feels the UFC will be more forgiving if he loses to someone at a higher weight class.
In the interview, Guillard also explains that he’s still irate at Clementi and has been on the hunt to find him in their native Louisiana. He also confirmed that he instigated a fight with him nearly a year ago at an MMA event in New Orelans.
“It’s like I tell everybody — and I’m going to keep saying it — when I see him again, I’m going to fight him again,” Guillard said in the interview. “When I get ready to go home for Mardi Gras, he just knows not to be seen. I went home for New Year’s and the places he wants to go, he wasn’t even there. He knew I was going to be there looking for him. He never showed up anywhere. As long as he keeps hiding from me, running from me, I’m winning the war every day.“

it takes a real piece of shit to try to keep fighting someone after you tap out and they let you go...
I thought Clementi was being pretty classless but what Guillard did was considerably worse
I don't really care if he comes back or not. all he does is throw sloppy haymakers
[GSP]I was not impressed with his performance[/GSP]

I would be hard pressed to say anything regarding Guillard that would not be considered bashing.

I'll bash him: the guy's a douche. Clementi was classless in his win over Guillard, but this is the second fight in a row Melvin talked massive amounts of crap only to get tapped out in the first. Good for Rich for putting "the bully" in his place. Melvin can feel good knowing that at least he lasted over a minute versus Clementi. Please! He's a jack ass and he's getting what he deserves- he was a jerk with a big mouth on TUF and he's no different as a "paid professional." Good riddance.

Hhahaha, you imagine?
"In other news Former Ultimate Fighter Melvin Guillard was seen instigating a confrontation between a previous foe, Rich Clementi, at a Mardi Gras party in LA. Clementi promptly jumped on Guillards back and proceeded to choke him out using an MMA choke hold. When Guillard was passed out from the hold, Clementi proceeded to yell "Suck it long and hard, Douchebag."
I'm beyond happy I don't have to see any of these childish antics of his again. Good Riddiance.
