| Liddell’s Coach on Machida: ‘His style is so hard to prepare for’ Quote:
It seems the Brazilian Lyoto Machida really is gaining space among the best fighters in his category. Besides the praise heaped on him for his win at UFC 79 over Cameroonian Thierry Sokodjou, the karateka undefeated in MMA has been gaining the respect of many important people in the field. At a press conference after the bout on the 29th, the Brazilian of a Japanese father was already thinking big when asking that his next adversary be a big name in the American scene.
The fighters named were Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell, two MMA stars that could, in the event of a win, clear the way for Lyoto to dispute the title. John Hackleman, Chuck Liddell’s coach, considered one of the best in the world of MMA, doesn’t seem to have fancied the idea too much.
“He’s one of the guys I’d least like to fight. Not for his toughness or anything. It’s just his style is so hard to prepare for. I knew he would beat "The African Assassin" (Sokodjou). He’s so boring, but he’s like the Larry Holmes of MMA. He’ll f----- beat everyone. Machida is a scary guy. He's going to be a hard guy to beat,” said Hackleman to the site Fighthype.

I agree with most of what was said about Machida... But you can not call his last two fights boring. It seems that he can be a passive counter puncher just as well as he can be a aggressive fighter who is effective from both the ground and the feet. His style might not always be the most exciting to watch, but at the same time the quickness, elusiveness, and just plain old skill he possesses is amazing.
WAR MACHIDA!

lol so the message is...
so boring... he's scary...
I think an aggressive fighter will have a better time with Machida, Soku didn't seem to have a clue what he was doing.
But he's got a bright future, very smart fighter from what I've seen, boring or not...

Like I posted earlier in another thread Chuck won't take the fight. The lack of appreciation of what Machida can do in a fight is mind boggling. It's crazy and honestly I don't think Machida is at Larry Holmes level yet but that comparison should be taken as a compliment. Holmes was a great champion.

Machida is a difficult match up for anybody? His discipline and patience will drive any fighter crazy and just lose control to the point where they would get caught in a Sub or KO.

Yup by boring he means could probably wait Chuck out get Chuck frustrated, possibly put Chuck on the mat and submit him. I think it would be an excelent fight, I would like this more then Machida vs Ortiz fight I think its a good styles clashing match, where Ortiz and Machida would have the same goals to get it to the mat.

The fight with Soko was not boring for fuck's sake. He sub'd him with a TAC- a dude who was considered one of the strongest fighters and a major up and coming talent at that. His fight against Nak was dominant and not boring either. Jesus, this man woud "f****** beat everyone"- as Hackleman put it- because he's a SMART fighter with great skill. Can he be beat- absolutely! Someone that can neutralize his awkward striking by landing a solid takedown and using effective GnP. I don't think a striker, no matter how aggressive, can beat him, because they can't get to him on the feet. Against Chuck, Lyoto would enact the same plan Jardine did. He'd be doing it against a better Liddell and would STILL have the same outcome as that fight did.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think Tito, IF he can get a takedown, could do well. But how driven will Tito be for fighting anymore.
The person who I think could absolutely DESTROY Machida is Quinton Jackson. QJ has excellent hands, great takedowns from the clinch (if he can avoid Wandy-like knees), he's probably one of the-if not the- strongest fighter at LHW, and I don't think Machida would be able to sweep Jackson if Rampage were on top as he did Soko. But Machida is so smart in the cage, I bet he would strike from the outside in the "boring" fashion some people seem to hate. Only problem is, he could get caught with a right hook.
I'd have liked to have seen Machida fight Hendo too. These are the tests Machida needs to really show how elite he is.

Machida and Chuck would be a good fight. I could see Machida frustrating Chuck and taking him down and maybe finishing the fight. I do think that Tito would over power Mahida and win a boring decision. Regardless Machida deserves a shot at a top contender but I just hope for his sake its not against Tito.
