| Georges St. Pierre Wants To Move Up After Cleaning Out The Welterweight Division Quote:
After the massacre imposed on American Matt Hughes at UFC 79, the name Georges Saint-Pierre made the headlines. The Canadian who was called up at the last minute to face the wrestler, as Matt Serra was injured, impressed by demonstrating a mix of great physical conditioning with enviable technique, having a stroll through the park with the most dominant champion in UFC history.
The next step for the karate black belt and Jiu-Jitsu brown will be the title dispute against a recovered Serra. But St. Pierre is already thinking past that, and confident in his abilities he considers venturing into other weight groups, to thus etch his name into MMA history, like Randy Couture, the only athlete to this day to lift the belt in two different weight categories in the UFC (heavy and light heavy).
“He wants to leave a legacy. He wants to be the most dominant fighter the UFC and MMA has ever seen, and he intends to accomplish that by dominating the 170-pound weight class, moving up to the 185 weight class and then eventually the light heavyweight class. When it's going to be time, it's going to be time. It's going to depend on the circumstances. It's going to be for the challenge. That's going to be a discussion we have with the UFC after this next fight. They've got some contenders that they've proposed down the road. We don't have an exact plan as to when that would occur. There's definitely a few more fights at the 170 level,” said Shari Spencer, the Canadian’s agent, to Sherdog.com.

Bad idea. There are a ton of WW's that he hasn't faced yet plus he needs to fight BJ Penn again. There are a bunch of guys at MW who would destroy him. He's too small for MW.

He didn't say it... it was his agent. Easy on the guy... he can dream and he wasn't even the one talking smack.

I disagree... St. Pierre is huge for a WW, he actually looks more like a middle wieght compared to most of his comp at WW, he is also a perfect hieght for MW at 5'11''. What I don't see is him bumping up to LH, I think thats a bit of a stretch, although possible considering his build.

And he's not all that big for a WW either, he walks around 185. That is 15-20 pounds smaller than the big MW fighters. Besides, this talk is stupid for other reasons -- he's not Matt Hughes of 2005. He's gotten the belt once and wasn't able to defend it. If he's looking to make a legacy, how about 8 or so defenses of his title. That would be a much better way than moving up to MW. Silva, Hendo, Franklin, and Okami would all destroy GSP. Him and his manager had better keep their mind on Serra for now. Later he ought to think about defending his belt a few times.

| Georges St.Pierre Is A Huge Welterweight
GSP is a gigantic welterweight compared to everybody else in the division. He can easily move up to middleweight.Remember,as of now the middleweight division is by far the weakest division in the UFC.He would have his hands full, but I can see him taking out one or two of the division's top contenders to earn a title shot. Here now is where he'll definitely be an underdog, either against Spider Silva or Hendo.Although he could win,I myself won't be betting any CA$H on him.And from there moving up to lightheavyweight and then actually beating the top half of the division,I think that is a real dream or should I say nightmare?

Well, I agree that GSP does need to focus on the fight at hand since his biggest weakness has always been his mind. He needs to get to the point where he doesnt beat himself before the fight before he talks about cleaning out divisions or moving up.
That said, hes listed as only half an inch shorter than Dan Henderson, so I think that he could make the jump in time. I'd give him the edge over Franklin and Okami. Heck, I might even give him the edge over Silva (I dont know if A Silva could handle his wrestling). Hendo would murder him, but after he retires GSP could plausibly be a top MW in my mind if he gets his head together.
